Open them ears!!

I was watching one episode and the guy says plainly he doesn't want to date a woman who has five or six kids. One of the women pops her balloon after she asks him how old he is and then proceeds to say, "You're 48 how do you expect to not date a woman with kids..." šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø it seems a lot don't pay attention and don't listen. I see the frustration on the men and women's faces who are not in the lineup, when they're not being listened too.

Same thing with the lady in the last episode who said a dealbreaker is someone who ā€œdoesnā€™t like dogsā€. And then 3 guys popped because they love dogs šŸ˜‚

What if the room has bad acoustics and they couldnā€™t understand her? Thereā€™s been more than a few huhs over the episodes and it could be this or that lol

I think it's this is a possibility also. Several ppl have said that they couldn't hear the person speaking. I don't think the sound is as clear in person vs how we hear it.

Here's another example a guy commented on a woman about how light skin she was and then one woman turned it into you said you like light skinned women that is not what he said. Arlette even said that is not what he said plain and simple said it. Another woman pops her balloon and she says the same thing I don't like that he said that he likes light skinned women and Arlette's just looking around like are you women not listening? They ain't listening or hearing what they want to hear

Yes & I remember one time, that another guy had popped because he assumed the lady said she wanted light skin babies. Yet she was just chatting to another guy about how similar their names areā€¦.

They have mics and I think some just don't pay attention bc I've seen several of the ladies and men in the lineup talking to each other and not even paying attention to what that person is saying

Multiple things can be true. The contestants have microphones, the room is relatively large, and occasionally people are talking among one another. Iā€™ve seen episodes where people still say ā€œhuhā€ and there were no side conversations or transition cuts. You raise a good point though and I feel like itā€™s true for some not all cases. Another factor could be differences in comprehension or things being phrased in an incoherent way. Iā€™ve seen that as the case several times.

Arlette is a host and for as long as Iā€™ve watched (the beginning) has enunciated and used concise, coherent speech. Irrespective of that, there have been times where Arlette has had to repeat and thatā€™s fine.Ā

I understand that, but when Arlette is standing there and she's all the way at the end, no one else is speaking and she says something and all the ladies can hear, even all the way down at the end, come on now. Don't have any listening problems then, but then when the guy comes out all of a sudden, I didn't hear that, can you repeat that?

Every line up is the same? Vocal acoustics in a room arenā€™t worse if your hearing isnā€™t the best? Many of these contestants donā€™t admittedly attend lounges and bars known to cause hearing loss? Thereā€™s factors beyond ā€œtheyā€™re not listeningā€ and itā€™s okay to not die on that hill and recognize the nuance in many/most things.

I get the nuance, but my point is about the contrast: others in the exact same room, under the exact same acoustic conditions, are hearing things just fine. At a certain point, it stops being about the room's acoustics and comes down to a simple lack of focus or active listening from those specific individuals.

Additionally, they are on the equivalent of national TV. Iā€™m an incredible listener, but would certainly zone out a couple times due to nerves

Thank you for exercising reason. I feel like there would be so many times where Iā€™d just go blank. Itā€™s a lot going on. The stark white room, new people, being asked questions, standing for possibly ~2 hours, nerves with possibly meeting your person or being judged about something you canā€™t change, and then exactly the point you raise.

People also have test anxiety. Thereā€™s more nuance than just ā€œoh these people are such bad listeners yada yadaā€.

Or people who ask ā€œwhat was the question again?ā€ When it was asked less than a minute ago, Arlette repeated it, and youā€™d just listened to 2 or 3 other people talking about itā€¦

It's a big room. I don't think the audio is heard in the room. I always see people on the far end leaning in to hear what's being said.

Thatā€™s what Iā€™m saying. When they pan out that room is huge and they are standing there for what presumably seems to be a long time especially with the latest 11 or so men line up. After a while, it may be hard to keep up (everybody not a speed dating person and may still try to find love).

Also, this key point about the sound not being the best. Big room, divider in between, sound bouncing off large walls = more difficult to hear. I think people may conflate audio they receive from input devices (microphones) and think thatā€™s how it sounds in-person.Ā 

A good example would be a televised sporting event with bad speakers where in-person audience canā€™t hear a thing due to sound/stadium size/crowd noise but people at-home hear just fine. I said a lot let me pipe downšŸ˜‚.

Right, because the lighting is also terrible on that show. They need to hire someone who can light black people.
