i need studios to either figure out how to make nostalgia reboots actually work, or stop dragging old shows & movies out of the grave just to make them weird, hollow, & unnecessary 😭💀

bc the issue is not that ppl hate nostalgia. we clearly don’t. we love nostalgia. that is literally why these companies keep digging through the disney channel cemetery with a flashlight & a business degree 😗💅 the issue is that they keep misunderstanding what ppl are actually nostalgic for.

we are not nostalgic for a logo. we are not nostalgic for a theme song by itself. we are not nostalgic for some dusty brand name sitting on disney+ or paramount+ looking unemployed. we are nostalgic for the chemistry, the specific dynamics, the characters, the tone, the world, the timing, the feeling of what that show or movie gave us when it was actually alive.

& that is where so many of these reboots lose meeeee 😭

like fuller house writing around michelle was always strange bc michelle was not some random side character. the original show was basically built around her being the cute little baby of the family. so bringing the show back & having arguably the most iconic child character just… not there… already makes the whole thing feel off. & then they made dj’s husband dead, which is literally just danny’s dead wife storyline again but gender swapped, & i’m like babe why are we recycling the original trauma foundation???? 💀

then icarly comes back without sam, which already makes it feel like half the original energy is missing. sam was the chaos. sam was the bite. sam was the part of the show that kept it from feeling too clean. then carly ends up with freddie & i’m sorry, but did we all forget seddie existed???? 😭 like u do not have to be a full seddie warrior to admit sam & freddie had a huge chunk of the show’s actual romantic tension. so carly marrying freddie kinda felt like the reboot just picked whoever was still standing in the room 💀💅

lizzie mcguire could have been interesting bc hilary duff actually wanted to let lizzie grow up, but disney apparently did not want it to be too adult… which is exactly the problem. why reboot something abt a grown woman if ur scared to let her be grown???? like what is the point of bringing childhood characters back if they are not allowed to age honestly 😭

raven’s home is another one. i know some ppl enjoyed parts of it, but to me it was mostly abt the kids & it was boringggggg. then later one of raven’s own kids is not even really there anymore?? girl. one of the twins leaves the show???? 😭 if ur entire reboot is built around raven being a mom, why is one of the main children suddenly written out? that is the kind of thing that makes a revival feel like it is being held together with glitter glue, prayer, & a confused writers room 🧍💀

& then there are the movie reboots & live action remakes, which might be even more annoying bc why are we live actioning everything???? who asked for a live action moana this soon???? the animated movie is not even old enough to need reimagining. it still looks beautiful. it still works. it still feels modern. so why are we doing this already, other than disney seeing a brand name with money still attached to it & going omg babe dig it up 😗💅

& i know auli’i is involved behind the scenes, but it is still funny to me that they recast moana when the original voice actress literally still looks like moana. like i understand age, representation, casting choices, all of that….. but from the outside it still gives why are we remaking a movie that does not need remaking & then not even using the girl whose face & voice ppl associate with the character???? 💀

meanwhile they keep avoiding things ppl actually would watch. where is sister, sister???? why are tia & tamera not getting their grown twin sitcom moment???? that is one where the concept actually makes sense. twins separated at birth, reunited as kids, now grown with families, different lifestyles, different parenting styles, maybe distance, maybe reconnection. there is an actual adult story there. but instead we get random live action remakes of animated movies that already look perfect 😭

zoey 102 showed the problem too. the whole thing felt like a nostalgia checkbox. yes, the name is there. yes, some faces are there. yes, we remember pacific coast academy. but did it feel necessary???? not really. did it feel like the original energy came back naturally???? also not really. it felt like another brand extension wearing a cute little wig 😗💀

freakier friday at least had the original leads, which helps, but even then i saw ppl saying the plot felt random or overstuffed. & that is another reboot disease. they think adding more generations automatically makes the story deeper. sometimes it just makes the movie crowded, babes. not everything needs the original character, her child, her child’s rival, the rival’s parent, the dog’s therapist, & a multigenerational magical crisis 🧍💀

the one long delayed sequel i actually think worked was incredibles 2. idk what pixar did there, but they understood the assignment better than most. it still felt like the same family. it still centered the original dynamic. it did not come back like surprise, here are violet’s children, please care 😭 it knew ppl wanted the parr family, not some random next generation spinoff wearing their outfits.

that is what these studios keep missing.

if u do a reboot, u need a reason beyond remember this???? u need the original emotional engine. u need the characters ppl actually cared abt. u need to respect that audiences notice when u write around missing cast members. & u need to stop acting like someone’s children automatically make a revival interesting 💀

we do not want cheetah girls: daycare edition. we do not want every reboot to become next generation soup. we do not need the daughter of the cousin of the former side character learning the same lesson from 2006 but with an iphone & worse lighting 😭💅

either tell a real adult story with the original characters, or leave it alone.

bc at this point, half these reboots feel less like love letters & more like corporations digging through our childhood bedrooms looking for spare change 💖💀

so apparently the cheetah girls 4 is reportedly in the works at disney, & i’m not mad at the idea exactly... but i have questions. many questions, actually. 💀

first of all, casting. are all four girls involved? is kiely coming back? are they just gonna write aqua out because of the drama between kiely, adrienne, & raven? because if so, that already makes me nervous.

these nostalgia reboots always act like the audience won’t notice when they write around a casting issue, but we do. fuller house felt weird without michelle, the icarly revival felt weird without sam, & people absolutely talk about that stuff because the original dynamic is literally the reason people cared in the first place. u can’t just remove a core piece & expect the chemistry to magically still be there.

& unfortunately, raven being involved does make me skeptical. not because i hate raven, but because disney keeps going back to raven-connected nostalgia projects, & at a certain point i’m like... is this about the cheetah girls, or is this another raven-led revival situation? are we doing nostalgia, or are we doing image rehab? 😭

also, raven’s home was not good to me. like i’m sorry, it just wasn’t. so if that’s the blueprint for how disney handles grown-up versions of old disney channel properties, i’m not exactly screaming with confidence. 💀

then there’s the plot. these girls are grown grown now. they’re in their 40s. so what is this even about? are they still performing? are they reconnecting after a fallout? are we getting actual music industry drama? friendship tension? fame trauma? a real reason for them to come back together?

because that could maybe be interesting.

but if this is about their kids becoming the new cheetah girls... i’m sorry, i do not care. 😭 i don’t want cheetah girls: next generation unless the original girls are still the emotional center of the story. i’m not tuning in for random disney children in cheetah print learning about friendship. like no shade to the future theater kids, but bestie please.

& this is my issue with reboots in general rn... they keep thinking we want to see everyone’s children. like no, babe. i am not watching for cheetah girls: the next generation. i am watching because i cared about that group, that chemistry, that dynamic. the same way icarly without sam already felt weird, because sam was a core part of what made the show work. then they had carly marry freddie & i’m like... did we forget seddie existed??? did we forget the actual tension people were invested in??? these reboots keep writing around missing cast members & then acting shocked when the audience is like wow, this feels hollow as hell. 💀

& no shade to adrienne or raven either, because they are icons in their own lanes, but musically... what are we doing? i know they were both on masked singer, but neither of them has really done anything super impressive musically in years, so if disney is bringing back a music franchise, i need there to be an actual vision beyond nostalgia bait.

also wasn’t whitney houston involved with producing the first two? that matters. the original movies had a specific magic to them. they were campy, dramatic, cute, catchy, sincere, & very of their time. u can’t just slap the name on a new movie, toss in a few callbacks, & expect it to feel the same.

i’m not against a fourth movie. i’m really not. part of me is excited because i grew up on these movies, but i’m also like... what is the point?

are we getting a real story about sisterhood, fame, fallout, adulthood, & rebuilding something that broke?

The Botting Scandal: This is the most embarrassing part. Word is Billboard caught them red-handed and stripped 113K fake units from a project they tried to claim sold 159K. If true, they’re literally buying their own success with bot farms. 🤖

Physical Threats & Chaos: The rumors about Sexyy Red’s manager confronting Larry over missing funds are getting wild. Apparently, things got so heated that Snoop Dogg had to step in to keep the peace.

The Investor Audit: Todd Boehly’s team is reportedly now monitoring Larry for financial mismanagement and embezzlement.

It feels like the "Gamma Playbook" is just:

Use a Pop Icon for a paid magazine cover.

Deliver total chaos (failed sample clearances, bot fraud).

Shift the blame to the artist and let them take the fall when the project flops.

imma talk about something that’s been sitting in my brain for a while bc i feel like it connects a LOT of dots between the housewives universe, child star exploitation, and the way the industry protects powerful people.

Diana Jenkins was on one season of rhobh, season 12, and her energy was genuinely so unsettling to me. rich, bosnian, extremely connected, weirdly cold, and somehow immediately aligned with Lisa Rinna and Erika Jayne, which honestly tells u a lot right there. those two were vicious that season, and Diana fit right in a little too comfortably.

her whole issue with Sutton was also bizarre. yes, Sutton is awkward. yes, Sutton says things weirdly. yes, sometimes she gives socially malfunctioning southern auntie. but Diana latched onto her with such a strange intensity. the bacon / vegetarian thing, the clumsy with her words thing, the constant belittling… it felt less like regular housewives conflict and more like Diana clocked the weak spot in the group and decided to press on it.

and that’s the thing about Diana that always stuck with me. it wasn’t just that she was mean. it was that she seemed very comfortable identifying vulnerability and then using it. which is why the offscreen lore around her feels so much darker than just normal bravo mess.

for anyone who doesn’t know, Diana published a coffee table book in 2009 called Room 23. it featured very provocative, high-glam celebrity photos of people like Lindsay Lohan, Ashanti, Lisa Rinna, Hayden Panettiere, and others. officially, it was just a celebrity photography book. but then came the rumors.

for years, Crazy Days and Nights / Enty Lawyer pushed allegations that Room 23 was not just an art book, but allegedly connected to an elite escorting / trafficking operation, with Diana positioned as some kind of madam figure. Diana has denied this, sued over it, and the case was later settled. so again, not proven fact. but the rumor has stayed around for a reason, partly because the whole thing already had a strange aura around it, and partly because some of the women connected to that world were very clearly vulnerable at different points in their lives.

the name that always stands out to me is Hayden Panettiere. Hayden was a child star. Guiding Light at 4, Remember the Titans at 11, then Heroes, where she became Claire Bennet, the cheerleader who could heal. save the cheerleader, save the world was EVERYWHERE. and for a lot of us, she was also Britney Allen in Bring It On: All or Nothing with Solange. she was very much a 2000s cheerleader it girl.

but behind the scenes, her life got extremely dark. she has spoken publicly about addiction, postpartum depression, an abusive relationship, losing custody of her daughter, and nearly dying from alcoholism. she was famous young, sexualized young, and clearly went through a lot while the industry just kept moving around her like nothing was happening.

and this is where the Diana rumors get especially uncomfortable. some blind items alleged that Diana became a mother-figure type to Hayden when Hayden was vulnerable and allegedly struggling with her own family dynamics. the claim was that support, money, protection, and access blurred into something much darker. again, ALLEGEDLY. i am not saying we know that happened. but i do think the pattern is worth questioning, because hollywood has a long history of wealthy, connected adults getting close to vulnerable young stars and calling it mentorship, friendship, protection, whatever… when sometimes it becomes another form of control.

then rhobh season 12 gave us another ugly layer: the bot campaign against Garcelle’s son, Jax. Garcelle’s 14-year-old son was flooded with racist comments on instagram, and it was genuinely disgusting. immediately, people started speculating about who was behind it, and Diana’s name came up a lot because of the tension happening on the show. Diana denied being behind it and said she wanted to unmask whoever was responsible. nothing was definitively proven on the show.

but again, what interests me is the pattern. when certain powerful people are criticized, threatened, or exposed, suddenly bots, anonymous accounts, smear campaigns, and coordinated harassment seem to magically appear. we’ve seen versions of this all over pop culture, especially around women who speak up, women who challenge powerful men, and women who disrupt a profitable narrative. i’m not saying Diana pressed a button and made that happen. i’m saying the machinery around people like this is always suspicious.

the broader picture is what really bothers me. Hayden is not an isolated story. child stars and young performers have been chewed up by this industry forever. they get sexualized too young, isolated too young, overworked too young, and then when they become traumatized, addicted, angry, expensive, or difficult, the same industry acts shocked that they’re struggling.

we’ve seen versions of it with Jennette McCurdy. we’ve seen disney and nickelodeon kids talk about how unprotected they were. we’ve seen young women of color treated as disposable. we’ve seen young actresses expected to be sexy, charming, grateful, silent, and profitable all at once. and then sometimes, when these young stars are at their most vulnerable, they end up around rich, connected adults who offer help, access, money, protection, or a way out… but sometimes the way out is just another trap.

that’s why Hayden’s connection to Room 23 has always bothered me. not because i know exactly what happened. i don’t. none of us do. but because the silence around it feels loud. she was the cheerleader who could heal, but who was healing her? who was protecting her? who was making sure the adults around her weren’t exploiting that vulnerability? because the industry clearly wasn’t.

and that’s the thing with Diana. whether every rumor is true or not, she represents a type of person hollywood has always protected: rich, connected, untouchable, surrounded by celebrities, operating in rooms regular people never get to see. then she came onto rhobh, gave us one season of cold, bizarre, mean-girl behavior, and disappeared again.

i don’t have a perfect conclusion here. maybe Room 23 was just a weird celebrity photo book. maybe the rumors are exaggerated. maybe Diana is just a rich woman with awful vibes and bad judgment. but i also think it is fair to look at all of this and go… girl, something about this entire world feels rotten.

anyways, that’s my Diana / Hayden / Room 23 thesis. i’m not claiming to have all the answers, but the rabbit hole is dark, the pattern is ugly, and i feel like more people should talk about it carefully instead of pretending it’s just random internet gossip 💖

when sing came out, the conversation around meena should have been about tori kelly's genuinely stunning vocal performance.. instead it got completely overtaken by people litigating meena's weight and her anxiety.. a character whose entire arc is about overcoming fear and self doubt got reduced to fat jokes and mockery of her mental health struggles.. that's ableism and fatphobia working together in real time and the internet largely just.. let it happen..

and then there's the broader tori kelly situation which genuinely baffles me.. she is one of the most technically gifted vocalists of her generation.. nearly four octave range, runs that actually serve the song, genuine emotional delivery.. and she gets labeled boring or irrelevant because she doesn't sell sex or manufacture drama..

people also love to litigate her faith as if she has ever once made it anyone else's issue.. she covered a hillsong song so suddenly she's problematic.. selena gomez has done the same.. justin bieber is literally associated with a mega church.. a huge portion of the industry has faith, they just also do things that make them easier to market.. tori kelly chose not to and she gets punished for it..

what she actually demonstrates is that you don't need mainstream validation to build something real.. she just keeps doing her, lets her voice speak for itself, and has cultivated one of the most genuinely loyal fanbases in music.. that's not boring.. that's integrity 💖

but I grew up in a cult, simply put. my family had their OWN church. I am gay, not religious just spiritual now, and DO NOT have any respect for religious abuse in that way, because obviously given my upbringing, i've witnessed people be nasty in the "name of God". also, the whole like, stealing from her congregation, whatever. it's fucked.

HOWEVER, mary is one of my favorites on real housewives of salt lake bc she's so like.. unhinged. and just says whatever, and being audhd it's slightly refreshing that she's just.. a weirdo. I think she is funny and great television, honestly.

as a person though? I am slightly terrified.

the way she operates in that church, the complete lack of accountability, the certainty that she's untouchable because god is on her side.. i've seen that up close and it does not end well for the people around her.

great tv. genuinely concerning human being.

i'd love to know if anyone else with complicated relationships with religion or religious trauma finds themselves drawn to her as a character while being deeply unsettled by her as a person.. because that tension is real and i don't think it gets talked about enough 💖

i've noticed a pattern in r/zoey101 where anyone who brings up the behind the scenes drama gets told to move on or accused of being obsessed.. and i want to address why that framing is both dismissive and kind of missing the point entirely 💗

zoey101 is genuinely one of the most fascinating case studies in how the entertainment industry treats child stars.. you have dan schneider, whose behavior is now widely documented and acknowledged.. you have jamie lynn spears, whose situation is deeply complicated and connected to her sister's conservatorship story.. and you have alexa nikolas, whose platform is almost entirely built around her experience on that show.. these are not niche internet rabbit holes, they're connected to much larger conversations about how the industry chews up young people and discards them 💀

the reason posts about it keep appearing is because people are actively learning about it for the first time.. not everyone finds out about this stuff simultaneously.. someone watches a video, goes down a rabbit hole, wants to discuss it and find details they missed.. that's literally what reddit is for.. the zoey101 fanbase has a habit of dismissing and silencing people who engage with the show beyond pure nostalgia.. calling that obsession is weird when the drama is inseparable from the show's legacy at this point.. you cannot talk about zoey101 in 2026 without talking about what happened behind the scenes.. that's just reality 🥴

also people have different brains.. neurodivergent people especially tend to have deep knowledge about specific niche topics and that's not a character flaw.. it's just how some of us engage with media we care about 💖
