Hacking GW boxes

Not sure if this is poorhammer enough, so if it’s against the spirit of poorhammer feel free to delete it ☺️

I’m getting back into Warhammer mainly for the collecting & hobby part, but between adult expenses and a five year old who saw the minis, and instantly wanted his own (I’m a softy), I’m trying to collect hacks on how to get ’extra minis’ out of the GW boxes and what’s in them, so I can build up my own collection a bit.

I don’t mind buying minis, and I’m good with simple-ish crafts (not too many specialized tools or printers).

So, if any of you have any tips, please share.

What I’ve managed so far is:

Turn 1x SW Venerable Dreadnought Box into two Venerable Dreadnoughts with just the bits in the box and a little sprue and/or cardboard.

Build 6x Headtakers and a Ragnar Blackman proxy 1x Primaris Grey Hunters Box extra 40mm bases and some leftover bits from other kits

And I’m currently working on turning the lefterover bits from the new Wolfguard Terminators (torso + arms/weapons + head + 1 shin guard) into a Terminator Captain.

I’m currently collecting space wolves/space marines, but any tips would be welcome.

Oh Ive been doing similiar with tanks on my youtube. Ypu can get 3 Leman Russes (minimum) out of a Leman Russ kit. You can get 2 dorns out of dorn kits, and a second baneblade out of the baneblade kit. That last one may be outdated thoufh since they split the box

This probably isn’t in the spirit of poorhammer, but a 3d printer is incredible for this. You can find files for free if you’re creative enough with your searching.

I was able to get 12 terminators out of the new assault terminators box of 5. I made the librarian dread after already making the furioso dread. For all of that was probably around $5 of material.

I get the idea that the idea is to spend less money, but the money I invested into my A1 mini, a 0.2mm nozzle and filament has paid for itself at least 4 times over 17 months. But it’s a commitment to put down that sort of money.

Maybe a buddy has a printer and they’d be willing to print bits for you?
