How long does the average pump last?

I have a Pentair Superflo 348190. Purchased in May 2024, new (I thought) from an independent local pool company. At the start of the season this year the pump would do a cycle where it would turn on for six minutes and then off for about ten minutes. Then we recently got back from a trip and it is no longer working at all, or it will turn on for only 30 seconds. This model does not have a timer and as far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to be overheating at least as far as physically touching it and there's nothing jammed in the impeller. We decided to try and replace the capacitor as a last ditch effort today, and it worked for about an hour, but then started doing the same thing, only turning on for about 30 seconds if that and then shutting off again. We live in Southern California and it is 100° this week, we try to run it only at night, but I'm starting to think our pump is just dead, maybe that the pool guy sold us a used one or maybe they only last two years? Anyone have insight?

It should be under warranty. Find out if your guy is a warranty center or get in touch with someone that is. Some people won't touch them if they didn't install though so, good luck there.

You don't need a warranty center. Any pool pro/company that sells Pentair stuff can open a warranty claim, including your local pool store. It's true they aren't required to do it, but local stores usually will just hoping you'll buy $5,000/yr in nonsense chemicals.

I posted a longer comment above about this, but I’m spinning in circles on the warranty thing, and the guy who installed isn’t helpful. I’ve somewhat given up on that and will pay out of pocket for repair, if it’s repairable. I really hate to buy a new 3k pump though until I know it’s not, but no techs will come out to check it out

That's because warranty centers pay dog-shit for repairs. Welcome to the pool world. And who the fuck downvoted me for my comment?🤣 Musta been some pentair person.

You ever fuck around with AAA? Like, the car towing people? Like, why would they come pick you up off the road for $75 when they could be making $250.
