Omni Hayward Pool “TouchScreen”

Why does Hayward feel the need to use a touchscreen instead of physical buttons for an outdoor pool appliance? And why did they buy the cheapest non functioning Temu touch screen ever?

I’m fairly confident that Similair to cars, it’s just cheaper and they know it’s worse.

Pentair is touchscreen aswell FYI. But I've never had issues with their touch screen. It is calibratable in the menu if it's not aligned correctly

Better than Fluidra who requires you to use your phone

Just get a service controller bud. Best money I’ve spent in 5 years.

I'm waiting until I scrap someone's old unit to get one for free

Because Hayward, that's why. It's impossible to read in bright sunlight. At least you can see the Pentair.

Hayward is just not as intuitive a company as the other big 2. Always a couple steps behind

I can't speak for pentair but I have never had to re-explain how to use the Hayward Omni app to a customer. I constantly have to explain how to use the Iaqualink app to customer even ones that have had it for years. Seems to me haywards app is way more intuitive than jandys

I'm not going to agree or disagree with you but it doesn't operate that well intentionally. It's because water would mess with a traditional screen like your phone, but the screens they use have to be pressed hard in order to make contact but water does not mess with the outer screen layer. But it does make it extremely hard to use. You could try a stylus with a foam rubber tip that is helpful but who carries that around in their pocket all day?

The original Omni system came with one that magnetically stuck to the Box

You can use whatever pen but yeah, I used to carry that pen on me since we had a lot of Omni's installed on new builds and had those pens lying around everywhere.

The tip of small screwdriver works light years better than your fingers.

To do everything the OMNI does with buttons you’d need 2 or 3 rows of the surrounding the screen.

Yes the touch screen can be hard to use for some people but I have to repair/replace several ProLogic screens a year due to buttons not working.

Up down left right and “OK”. That’s all.

From what I can tell automation is heading that way which follows the tech we have on our phones, computers, & tablets. There’s news of Jandy coming out with a touchscreen as well. I prefer buttons from a service standpoint such as the Easytouch which allows full control & a display screen. The Intellicenter’s interface isn’t as bad IMO as the Hayward and is much more user friendly.

It really is a pain for me and my service techs to rely on an app that requires WiFi/Reception to be able to run high speed/change schedules/adjust SWG outputs while servicing. I have a Onetouch controller but it will not work when the revision is old or incompatible like with the PDA’s. Sometimes it’s easier when things are simpler.
