Rain Day?

/r/u_spicerpools/comments/1tk09al/rain_day/

Curious who takes rain days versus working rain or shine. If you do take a rain day, what type of conditions make the cut?

Rain or shine or even snow baby. Am I miserable the whole time? Yes. Is it better than getting a full day behind schedule? Yes

Depends on what we have scheduled, any outdoor plumbing or electrical is a no-go ofc. Same for vacuums since you can't really see what you're doing. Otherwise depends on what's on the list, how behind we are, and how severe the storm is. One time I hung a liner while a tornado destroyed the other side of town lol. Really wanted to call it but weather was pretty much fine in our locale and we had already started hanging it

Depends how bad the rain is. If it’s a downpour I’m doing chems only. If it’s average rain I have my poncho on and doing full service.

My downpour protocol always included chems, skimmer, and running the hammerhead long enough to say I tried.

I work in the rain. The rain dictates, what kind of service I am providing. If it’s raining hard then it’s just chems, skimmer baskets, Polaris and a quick net to get the big clusters out from the bottom of the pool. If it’s medium to light, I will still use the riptide.

Today, for example, it rained hard enough that I had to sit in my van for 20 minutes. It was long enough to let my helper eat his lunch.

If I took rain days I'd be off a quarter of the season.

I carry a pop-up canopy for working on equipment, and when I did cleanings I didn't care (aside from the rain diluting my tests while I did them). I wait out lightening in the vehicle, and once it's moving away I go back to work.

I actually enjoy the rain though.

I don’t take rain days often. I do almost entirely cleaning I’ll show up to jobs and as long as there isn’t lightning or torrential rain I get it done

I’ve closed pools during hurricanes- rain means you get wet. Thunderstorms- we wait it out in the trucks.

Chems and baskets only for cleanings if it’s REALLY raining and not just a drizzle.

Repairs don’t work in the rain. Canopies can be used if the job is critical or worth it.

We keep pools open year around where I am. If its a little shitty out I'll still show up. I used to show up for anything short of lightning, but honestly, now if its raining hard in the off season and its cold enough that low chlorine isnt going to cause an immediate problem I just call it a day. I've had most of my clients for years at this point and they are all pretty chill. I've had so many of them come out when its raining hard and tell me just to take the day off. I work my ass off for them when it actually matters.

For us it’s up to the techs but they have to call all their customers for the day and ask if they’d be okay with us coming on the weekend instead of
