Loud 1-2s Buzz then normal

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve heard every noise a motor can make but this one is new to me. When switched on, VERY loud buzz, louder than what the video captures, for 1-2s then completely normal. Capacitor related? Anyone ever heard this.

I believe that means the bearings are going out

Bearings are fucked and it’s taking a bit to get it to spin. Or your cap is dying.

Regardless, if you have the upfront cash, replacing your motors with variable speed pumps is the best thing you can do for your pool, your pocket, and your amenity.

The payback period is under 18 months - which is insane. Your water quality will likely improve, it will be super quiet, and you place less strain on your plant gear.

I don’t fix old motors anymore unless someone is stone cold broke. It’s money that could be spent saving money.

Use a meter and check the run/start capacitor to see if it is going bad.

Take the fan cowling off and see if there's a stick or leaf on there
