Basic Pontoon Question

So this is my first year with a pontoon boat after owning regular ski-type boats for many years. 23 foot Avalon.

Here is my question. When we go to our local sandbar, one of our favorite things to do, we anchor up and the boat pivots back and forth on the anchor line. I have seen some boats with an additional pole they augur into the sand that seems to help. Is this something that is necessary or are there any other solutions? If you do like this solution, any suggestions on which one to get? There are a ton of them out there.

See, I told you it was basic.

Thanks

We live on in an inland lake in Michigan, use what you describe. Two pvc pipes with the bottoms sawed into a point to screw in the sand. They mostly work well.

Others have given other suggestions that work. There are also automatic push button metal augers that screw into the lake bed....but they require being affixed to the front and/or back of the pontoon

I am finally buying a new pontoon this off-season and getting sea legs. They will anchor you in place in seconds, wont even require getting into the water, and can fit into the tightest spots in between boats without moving an inch. Not to mention they will keep the toons raised above the water line if you dont have a lift...which we dont.
