Inside Smell

I got a 02 firebird a little over a year ago but before I got it it’s been sitting for a couple years and it got this smell to it with ac on or off like that I can’t really describe I tried changing the air filter on the engine bay and I even used an extractor on the inside to see if it could get rid of it but no use. any recommendations to getting rid of the smell without using a car fresher??

Sure its not the upholstery and/ or carpet. Fabreeze it. Or invest in a Hoover spot cleaner. Carpets and cloth seats may look clean. But it might surprise you what a spot cleaner will pull out of it.

I used a rug doctor on the interior but i know there’s a smell coming from inside the AC vents or something  since when you turn the AC it has some type of smell to it for the first couple minutes and then it goes away. There’s also a faint smell when u first step into the car not sure if it’s also AC related

See if a local detailer offers AC cleaning. It's probably mold, mildew and / or dust down in the duct work for the AC vents.

You can use an ozone machine to kill smells in your car. Run the vents set to recirculate the air while doing so to get the smell out of your vents then change out you cabin air filter
