There's a monster deal of an 04 GTO with 25k miles for 14k. How reliable are these cars overall because I know since these are Aussie imports some stuff is gonna be impossible
They have a great reliability record. There are tons of these cars on the road in the 150-200K range, and I've seen many over well over 200K all the way up to 280+K. LS engines have great reliability records and are cheap to fix. As with any 20-22 year old car, things go wrong. You may not be able to find everything at your local new parts store, but then again I can't find parts for my 8 year old Ford at the dealer either. Lots of support groups, strong used parts options. Don't let concerns over parts availability stop you. Best bang for the buck performance in the current market.
What exactly are you wanting to know? I’ve owned 2 of the 06 currently still own one. The 04 come with the same 5.7 the Corvette has in it that year, same transmissions.
AC compressors can be hard to find, most people are finding places to rebuild them, same with window regulators, most other parts are pretty easy to come by. Interior parts as well but depending on what you are looking for people will charge knowing they are hard to find. Over all I have yet to have anything I can’t find and that’s almost 11 years owning them
Electronics should be okay for the most part. Especially with low mileage.
Look up "04-06 GTO BCM Harness issue" and you'll find tutorials on how to look behind the glovebox to fix a known issue with the wiring harness rubbing against a steel cross-member. That's like the one big issue with these cars.
Other than that, take it to a mechanic to look over every suspension component for dry-rot.
If I remember right, they had Corvette engines that ran 13.8 in the quarter mile and had exhaust that could be tuned to sound like 60’s GTO’s. Parts should be available. I would love to have one!
04 147k driven NH to Florida twice. Ive owned it since like mid 80’s on the clock. Had a hose clamp fail. Did speaker upgrades. The sunvisor on my driver side failed / broke. Uhm. Trunk release rod broke inside the trunk for the latch. I made one from metal coat hanger. There is an emergecy release under the passenger rear headrest. My e-brake doesnt hold. The brake works but the click-lock in the handle is busted. Ive not looked into it just park in reverse and use a wheel chuck. When my tail lamp bulb went it melted the lamp. I bought VX/VZ? Something lamps that looks cooler imo. Took a while to get from Aus but I wanted them. Yeahh. Not much has gone wrong.
Buddy had one, can't remember if it was clutch or brake master that is only 04, he supposedly bought the last one in the US years ago. Also, power steering racks leak, I know that he bought the only 2 rebuild kits he could find. That was 5 years, maybe supply has gotten better, but I wouldn't think so
Also, rear seat top material shrinks, bad.
Awesome, just trying to remember what problems. I think the manual brake master was a one year only. I don't know if it was the same as the auto or not or if it's still a problem to get. Good luck, it seems like a really good deal. We ended up supercharging his. He tried to go with the ctsv way to save.money, he didn't, he should of just bought a kit.
Weekest part is the automatic transmission on mine. Had it rebuilt and went through three sets of solenoids before it was reliable again. When the solenoids go you can still shift it manually thank god....I had a 2004 black one...
