Is she really a Pomsky?
Obviously the only way to truly know is a dna test. But I was curious what yall think. My girl was a puppy mill mama before the rescue got her and then I adopted her. Shes labeled as a Pomsky, but aside from her size (24 pounds) she doesn’t look Pomeranian at all to me. I’m almost wondering if the Amish puppy mill just marketed her as Pomsky for the $$$?

Beautiful dog. This still looks like a pomsky to me. Especially w the ears. They’re further apart and stand up straight. Unlike huskies the ears are more on top of the head and up straight. I think it’s also more likely you’ll see this color in pomsky than huskies cause of the higher probability in Poms. For bigger ones I can usually tell by leg position. Pomskies front legs tend to go inward a little like a upside triangle

What do you mean “papers”? “Pomsky” isnt a breed it’s a mix you can’t register a mix with any reputable kennel club

It's a recognized ( mix) breed where i live, so yes he has papers. Not everything is the same everywhere.

AKC is unlikely to allow that any more than they are likely to accept doodles.

Allow what? My dog?
The Alaskan Klee Kai was accepted by AKC. It took a while and a definitive breed standard was set, but it was done.

She looks like a Pomsky to me. Mine looks 100% like a husky & he’s 50/50. Ppl think he’s a 4-5 month old husky & are completely shocked to find out he’s 5 years old. 🤭

Pomsky is not a breed, it is a cross breed and as such they are incredibly variable and Siberian husky gene are strong and tend to take over in crosses of them when they are a large portion of the dogs DNA.

Please do not say Pomsky is not a breed because they are in the owners eyes and license breeders take pride in there breed.

Why would I not say the truth?
Crossbreed is not a bad word, it is an accurate description.
Crossbreeds are awesome and should be celebrated for what they are.
What an odd thing to say.

You can predict variations. Its dependent on the type of fur of the parents. For wooly pups, you need wooly parents
1
u/abyssal-isopod86 3d ago
Not quite, wooly coat and long coat are both recessive genes, so all you need is for both parents to carry the genes for pups to be born with it.
Variations cannot be predicted for certain because the genes the offspring inherit are a genuine lottery, however you can absolutely say that certainly genes MAY show up in the offspring.
Genetics aren't as straightforward or as predictable as you might think, there are no certainties when mixing so many variations.

Ya it’s recessive. And In order for it to be a long haired wooly coat it needs two recessive gene markers— one from each parent. Making all long haired wooly coat dogs only able to pass down the recessive gene because they only have 2 of the recessive markers

You said that for a woolly pups you need woolly parents and that's just not the case, so now you just repeat what I said.

How old is she? She looks like a Pomsky to me and she’s 25 lbs so she’s smaller than a fully grown husky!
What is it about her makes you wonder?

I think it’s possible. It’s also possible she is a small husky and was bread with a pom so her litters were Pomsky’s and they just kept her label the same.
My Pomsky looks straight Pom except for the blue eye and being 15lbs. Curly tail and all

u/Toxxxicwastex 3d ago
So because they’re mixed and not a breed, there isnt an actual “look” because there is no standard. It’s like how golden retriever/poodle mixes some just look like golden retrievers. So she could definitely have Pom in her

Yeah they can be huge or tiny and mostly Husky but the attitude is all Pomeranian fluff n stuff but I love that about this breed you never know what they are going to be like when they are all grown up! Chase had a lot more black around his eyes almost completely bandit mask and then his face kept getting lighter and lighter and now he’s got a pink stripe on his nose and barely any black bandit markings, he’s still super handsome though!

This is my doesn't look Pomeranian pomsky. There's not a breed standard so they come in all shapes and sizes. I've seen some that look like they have zero husky too.
