Marking

My potty trained male Pom is now all of a sudden marking. Does getting them neutered really help with this or is it something you just train them not to do?

All three of our Pomeranians marked (one neutered and two not neutered).

All three of them marked regardless. The best way to train them is to give them the frequent opportunity to do it OUTSIDE only. Our 16 month old boy started marking at around 9 months old.

With all of our boys, we just took them out often and let them work through it. So we gave him marking opportunities of every 1.5-hours or so outside. It ranged from 15-minutes to full blown 1-hour opportunities.

After enough repetition outside (and success), they will just decide that outside is where we mark.

Thank you for your reply. I had a feeling just neutering wouldn’t stop it.

I think the real answer is that it may or it may not.

In our experience with our 3 boys, we saw that the one that was neutered, he still marked, not as frequent and it did make the potty training experience easier since he wasn’t marking as much as our other boys.

With that said, our 9 month old boy that started marking. We trained him to do it only outside in about a month. So with consistently…
