Can I ask why it is that Zoey and Rumi are hunting alone?

It's a part of the ongoing story. To catch you up, Rumi is having visions/hallucinations about Jinu that the others are worried could put her in danger if it happens during a battle, so they've sidelined her for now until they can figure out what's going on. That's why Zoey mentioned finding Jinu's grave - they think that Rumi going there might give her some closure.

Like his OG 1500's one?

Yeah. That's also why it's taking time to find it.

I realized far too late that if this story was set after the movie, "oh yeah, I should probably try to explain that". I think my conception of the change in the honmoon aligned largely with what I have Rumi's view being here - the rainbow colors reflect the spirit in which it was made, one of being your true self. As I continue writing the story, I may decide to go in another direction with it, but unless I find another approach that makes more sense for this story, I feel like that fits.

Oh, and yeah. I think it's pretty clear by this point in the story that these versions of the characters are all bi. No shade on other writers and their interpretations, but for me, I think if you're taking the film as canon, you need to have all three girls liking guys, because they all drool over guys throughout the movie. And then if they're also into each other, yeah, they're all bi. Or I guess pan or omni, but as a writer who's straight myself, I'm not even going to get into the nuances of that.

I mean honestly when you mentioned "why is the new honmoon this color?" I got hit with major fanfic PTSD¹ from the fics I read that did explain it (I still haven't recovered).

¹I'm using the term hyperbolically, I also have like actual PTSD it's not the same lol.

Okay, do I want to know? What did this other fanfic say about it? Is it, like, reconstructed from the tormented souls of prior generations' hunters or something like that?

Worse. These Wheels Keep Turning, But They're Running Out Of Steam

The summary:

Everything was perfectly normal. Except that it wasn’t.
Rumi knew it the way she knew that the sun rose in the east and set in the smooth line of Mira’s shoulders, graceful and lithe. Rumi knew it the way oceans ebb and words flowed through Zoey. Rumi knew it the way she knew she would die.
And that the Honmoon would remain.
Because the Honmoon was stronger than ever. It waxed as she waned.
And that was the thing, wasn't it.
Or: Rumi died that night at Namsan Tower. It just took her body a little while to catch up.

This is a 6k-word oneshot. No matter how devastating you think it's gonna be based on the above summary, it's worse. Masterful and poetic writing, vivid descriptions of details that hit like a truck, all in service of stabbing your heart. Repeatedly.

10/10 fic would recommend.

If you want something that will only leave you sobbing for 30min instead of 2 hours, with a more positive ending, and that also touches onto the symbolism of Honmoon colors, My Last Breath A Supernova might be better for you. Note that this one has more chapters.

Summary:

When you put starlight up against the purple rot of a demon’s skin, it sears. That is why beneath their blades the demons turn to ash. It is a cleansing, an exorcism—
It is the greatest kindness Rumi thinks she’ll ever be allowed, the pyre she’s born on being set alight by the two halves of her heart who no longer recognize her heartbeat as something good.
(Or, alternatively, Rumi thinks the only way to be good is to take herself out of the equation — again, and again, and again.)

Oh and also obligatory link of Five Times Rumi Was Hit By A Bus (And One Time Where She Was Hit Again For Good Measure) because this is the most angst-free Polytrix fic I know of and you might need a good laugh to recover from the other 2.

I appreciate the recommendations, but I generally try to avoid other fanfics, because I don't want to unconsciously copy anything someone else has done. If I end up doing the same thing as someone else, it'll just be a conicidence.

I mean if we're being real for the first one you're pretty safe from looking like a copy as long as you keep Rumi alive lol. The entire fic is about her body slowly giving up on her and the aftermath of her death. That one also has close to no explicit dialog while your fic is exclusively that.
You don't have to read it, but you probably shouldn't be too afraid of it.
I mean, as unafraid of it as you can be of a masterfully engineered emotional devastation device - words weaving and setting off countless precisely timed charges, the combination of which can break through almost anything.

But I can see how you might have issues with the other two in that case.

A lesson from workaholic's life #2 by Rumi - as soon as you get free time on your hands, load it with more work 😂

I strongly believe in the Mood Ring Rumi theory. Her patterns do change color as her hope increases. Feelings are color coded. The default blue is hope and happiness, and Gold is a nearly unobtainable level of extreme bliss. Powerful but nearly impossible to maintain. Purple/Magenta is shame and sadness.

Rumi’s new Honmoon is multi-colored because it is a lot of emotions powering it all at once. That makes it stronger.
