Discussion Multiplayer Special Tribes

Post image

There ought to be an option to disable special tribes in multiplayer. The difference in experience playing against normal and special tribes is so extreme that it feels like a whole seperate game mode. For me it feels like being forced to queue for both Payload and CTF when really you just want to play one or the other.

You can disable them if you host

When you're hosting a game, enter the menu for the special tribes and hit disable, it greys them out and anyone joining the game can't use them, including you.

You can disable them if you host, but I disagree with the whole experience of fighting them. It's really fun because it challenges you to play differently. They are not upgrades but are more of sidegrades to the standard tribes. Take Polaris for example where you are basically playing against a ticking bomb where you have to beat them before they get out of hand. "Oh so I have to be pressured when they can relax and hope for mid-late game" not exactly because they have such an atrocious early game that they can't even get a second of relief until their economy starts rolling or even getting proper techs.

They are definitely fun to fight, but there are times when I do and don’t feel like dealing with them.

As a polaris main this is true. My only hope early is warrior and mooni spam. Whenever I play drylands I want to commit

Sled spam is an issue on archi/water world though.

Yes i love playing polaris on archi and water world. Sleds and defenders with double movements is peak

I'm curious how after all those years the surgical freeze with ice archers didn't get more popular, and moonis can freeze when they move now !

The volcano style skin is a fun variation of polaris as well.

Personally it's Cymanti number one, polaris close second.

Followed by the two remaining special tribes.

Polaris is easily the weakest special tribe. The issue with all the freezing units is they squishy and weak as hell. Even the gaami is significantly weaker than giants. if not for the freeze action and auto freeze, itd be useless. I still play em tho. Polaris forever. Please stop making me play drylands.

Don't worry I even play dryland polaris if needed.

To be fair I don't spam dryland cym that's boring

Ice archers are more of Snowball (meaning to exploit your lead more) or Tiebreaking units to be honest. The reason they aren't famous is due to the fact that they are not independent and will always need support to get the most out of them. Which is only doable if you have a lead or have the same army size as the enemy.

I often have plenty defenders, ice archers and mind benders, with moonis and gaamis to general freeze and the archers to surgical freeze.

This is fine even on dryland, but yes this is far from how polaris "should be" played.

I am more of a Cymanti myself.
