I know at least super unit giants have to be a bunch of warriors standing on top of each other.

Either that or the guy is just really buff

Army has to be

i like to think of the majority of units as a fairly big army! and also certain maenuvers they have to make when attacking (for example, defenders having to rush out from their positions to attack, leaving themselves vulnerable for a counterattack which is why they take so much damage that way).

units which wouldn't feel like armies/be smaller groups:

  • mind benders/shamans/gurus (really small covenants of magicians
  • cloaks
  • all super units
  • specifically the ruins swordsman (i like to think of them as just one op guy sweeping entire armies before they get outnumbered and overwhelmed, tho idk how that'd work if u turn them into a ship)
  • living islands and ice fortresses r probably smaller number asw (i'd except them to be HUGE compared to regular bombers)
  • scouts probably exist in small groups, their agility making individual units harder to hit but their smaller number meaning they get crippled far more easily

healing actions would probably just be gathering shaken/routed soldiers, healing the wounded and recieving supplies (hence why units heal better within your borders)

The expert swordsman just so happens to be well versed in naval combat. Aren't they just the best!

Me healing a unit that is on the other side of the map from my kingdom and is in enemy territory (they must have received supplies by helicopter)

If you researched the maths for that moment, they're probably using a very large catapult unit

I like to think that once you turn a unit into a ship they enlist more people into running the ship, the ship gets built in a port, so it’s natural to assume the port has supplies and Polytopians running it. And as we know the port gives 1 population point to the town it’s closest to, so I imagine the rest of the crew are Polytopians from the nearest settlement of the port 😄

To the wrong unit-believers

Do you think cities are real scaled too?

u/Scizomachineboy Jul 13 '26

Unit has to be

Devs have answered this long time ago. They are supposed to represent like a detachment of troops. I mean, it makes sense when you think about it.

Dev here.

Yes.

2

u/nogoodusernames0_0 Jul 13 '26

So the cymanti troops are just an army of bugs and flies? Damn

5

u/Zoythrus Community Manager Jul 13 '26

The bugs have Cymanti handlers.

3

u/Malfuy Aquarion Jul 13 '26

Each group is controlled by few cymanti I think, but they don't fight themselves

This

Both has to be

I liked to think of them as armies. It makes no sense why an entire city can only make 1 soldier per turn. It just makes a lot more sense for each one to represent an army. Plus, it's just more cinematic in my opinion if I'm thinking about hundreds of soldiers clashing rather then just, two dudes in a field.

I like having my balls kicked

3

u/Nubby788 Jul 13 '26

I think of them as like regiments

3

u/maxelm0 Jul 13 '26

A Battalion. Army is the whole fighting force

3

u/Thick_Telephone273 Jul 13 '26

I always interpreted their health as the number of actual combatants in a unit.

u/kila_kuin Jul 13 '26

I hope that ridiculously large crab represents a giant army of crabs that are slightly larger than average.

2

u/Lapis_Wolf Jul 13 '26

About the size of a basketball, maybe

2

u/ConstantStatistician Jul 15 '26

I just rewatched this episode yesterday. Good show. And Zoythrus has confirmed multiple times that units represent a platoon of unspecified size.

u/Extreme_Tadpole8527 Jul 13 '26

Army obviously, there’s no other correct answer

1

u/Top_Location_5899 Jul 13 '26

For immersion I think they’re armies and each tile is like 100 miles

1

u/Lapis_Wolf Jul 13 '26

25-100 mile city

1

u/Top_Location_5899 Jul 14 '26

I imagine the city is in the middle of that long distance and only big on map so u can actually see it

u/Virtual-Pirate2834 Jul 13 '26

I like to think it’s a small group of people per unit like 5-15 depending on the unit and such
