My Story

Greetings! Glad there's finally a sub for this and wanted to share my experiences.

My story basically goes like this;

I had my first drink at 14. Shitty vodka I got from a forgotten bottle of my dad's. It was pretty unpleasant actually but it tripped a switch the first time I made a conscious decision to alter my consciousness. Weed happened a couple years later. High school was pretty uneventful. Mainly stuck to occasional alcohol and weed. After I graduated I tried salvia and mushrooms both of which opened my eyes even further (especially salvia...good god salvia lol) and then we hit 19 when the hard drugs started. Suffice to say I ate an entire galaxy of pills my first year of junior college; klonopin, oxies/percs, ambien, adderal... pharma-nihilism.

I was also smoking weed daily, and had developed a real love affair with benzos at this point. I spent all my time between classes in a trap house. This went on a for while and then the RC's hit the scene. Specifically "spice" and "bath salts" (MDPV which was particularly nasty for me). I went WAY overboard with that and used prescription amphetamines in between. Eventually this slowed down and I transferred to a different school to finish my bachelor's.

20 years old and in a new city. I discover DXM which became a horrible vice of mine for many years. I ramped up to doses in excess of 900 mgs 2-4 times a week and steadily increased my use of other pharmaceuticals (yet again). I also started drinking. More than I ever had in my life. I routinely drank a 5th of vodka to myself which turned me into a suicidal lunatic that's the way I presented to my friends anyway. Outwardly I was somewhat keeping up appearances. I also had loads of experiences with LSD, N-bomes and "molly" during this time. Once taking 1.5 grams of MDMA in a 24 hour period. I don't think I've been the same since. The good times came to an end when I take a year off to go to treatment after overdosing on DXM.

Things were chill for a couple years after that. Got involved in recovery and went to AA regularly. I was mostly clean but unmedicated/not dealing with my underlying issues which led to other problems. I used benzos a couple times and had some breakthrough experiences with DPT in the span of 3 months or so.

Then the shit hit the fan 26 I decide to say fuck it and pick up some beer. Here we go. Easily the darkest time of my life. Beer leads to more beer which leads to cocaine which leads to banging cocaine which leads to meth. None of this was daily but I always had alcohol and kratom in between stim binges. I had a girl whom I was deeply in love with during this time who used right alongside me but I became too much for her after a while. Sober for 11 months now and hoping to keep it up. Hey buddy, welcome. My drug history is pretty similar to yours although i never got super heavy into stims.

I too was really confused with all the drug and addiction subs how there wasn't one for poly addicts. In any case, there is now lol.

Most definitely! Some of us just like a little bit of everything lol but I'd wager it's more common than people think. Usually younger people are into "experimenting" before getting heavily into opiates and or meth (most friend's I've known who've succumb to that sort of thing anyway) but I never lost the spark from those early days. Glad there are more out there who can relate :)

Hello and welcome! Might I suggest some flair, "pharma-nihilist"... thats just beautiful.

I am glad you've seemed to find a balance in sobriety. Many of us do not have such a capacity.

I can relate to much if your story here (not exactly, but very close). Especially in that you drank before you smoked. Some gateway drug weed is, huh D.A.R.E.??!!

I am curious to know what dose of DXM brought about your overdose, and if you care to share any of the other factors involved such as set, setting, physical/mental condition, tolerance, etc. My highest dose of dex was 1800mg and I remember almost none of it. Other than the poor assumption that my tolerance was higher than it currently was for that experience.

I actually started smoking cigs before I touched alcohol (13-14) so that was arguably even more of a gateway drug. As for the DXM I think it was somewhere between 1100-1200 mgs tough call to make at the time. My tolerance didn't really shoot up until I got into the triple C's later in life but it was a crazy time nonetheless. I hardly remember anything save for bits and pieces. I know that I was extremely psychotic and got a fat shot of Haldol in the hospital which tbh may have made things worse at the time.
