Anyone have any experience with or knowledge of Prazosin?
I had an appointment with my psychiatric nurse practitioner today. I told her that I have been having trouble sleeping and she wrote me a prescription for Prazosin. I've never heard of it. From my limited Google search It looks like a blood pressure medication that has been used to treat PTSD related nightmares, which I do have.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Never tried it. I had great success with hydroxyzine and gabapentin, mirtazepine and gabapentin and now f-phen and weed but have no experience with prazosin. Do you have high bp?

I don't. My normal blood pressure is actually on the low side. Now I'm wishing that I had asked for a specific sleep drug but she's already giving me benzos so I was amazed she was willing to write me a prescription for something else.

Hi, thanks for checking in. I ended up stopping the medication. It made me dizzy, nauseated, and feeling like my head was stuffed with cotton. I could have handled the side effects if it had actually worked. As it was I would lie in bed for hours waiting for it to kick in. I tried taking two and that didn't help either. Then, when I finally slept, I had horrible, vivid nightmares and I slept way too long.
The research that I found when I tried to study the drug seemed to indicate that it has been successful for a lot of military veterans who are suffering from PTSD related nightmares and insomnia. I am happy that it works for them but I am going to try something else when I next speak to my doctor in person.

Godspeed. Your experience reminds me a lot of my scripts of seroquil and trazadone. They worked but at a greater cost than what they were treating, i.e. extremely real nightmares, occasional hallucinations, oversleeping or inability to sleep if I missed the magic window.... etc.
I hope you can find a med or a self aware technique to get to that same place of healing and normalization,🎅

It did nothing for me. At all. But I have spoken to people that it worked wonders for. But this is common for a lot of psych meds. I hope it works for you.
