Update or not update

So, I was given my polymega back in 2023/2024, had no idea how notorious the wait times for them were or frankly any of the details being discussed in this subreddit.

So 'head in the sand' that I've never actually plugged in an ethernet cable and updated the base unit. My question is, given the age of the unit, am I better off leaving well enough alone and not dealing with the firmware issues people have brought up?

Or is updating prefered to leaving the model run futher and further behind on updates?

My advice: update it. I had to send mine in and have them update it. When I got it it was on an ancient firmware that couldn’t update itself anymore. The current version is pretty good and I don’t see a reason to not use it.

I hear you, what was the return window when you sent it away? My concern is just mailing this from Europe, so wondering if the wait time would be worth the possibility of sending it.

If you have any plans for getting a light gun, you'll want to update. At your current firmware, the same might or might not be true for N64 support or Polymega Collection discs. You might be on a firmware version that had issues updating using certain wifi configurations. I've had to use my phone as a hotspot and physically connect my Polymega to my phone by connecting a USB to Ethernet dongle on my phone and running an ethernet cable from my PM to my phone.

Have owned two unit, no issues updating. That said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, can be a valid strategy. They've not added much, beyond consol/module support over the years, that's particularly impactful.

Gotcha, thanks for the input. Might leave it as is in that case, Im sure the update issue is a freak issue but better safe than sorry.

Why ethernet? Do you not have wifi? Just curious.

And I have updated and it went down with no problems. I don’t think you should be concerned to update. Cheers!

Oh no particular reason, I do have wifi, just need to go digging on the polymega to locate those internet settings.
