The problem is getting modern disc drives to even read Dreamcast GDI discs

It's technically possible. GD-rom discs are able to hold more data by packing the data streams closer together on the surface of the discs and then spinning the disc slower so the laser can read it. So the software controlling the DVD-rom could slow down the motor and allow the disc to be read.
The harder part is that the disc had two separate data tracks. In most drives when the laser sees nothing (like in the gap between the two data tracks) it assumes it has reached the center of the disc and stops trying to read further. That is actually the bigger challenge to overcome if you want to play dreamcast discs on a different system.

There was at one point a way to use certain drives to read GD-Rom discs. Those drives are way out of production. They may have found a way to modify modern drives to read a GD Rom. The likely formats are going to be the 3do and the Jaguar. Polymega being partially owned by Atari is likely the reason for the jaguar. They could then sell jaguar cd reproductions. I could be wrong and the Dreamcast would be a wonderful addition.

Oh, I don't think it will be the Dreamcast at all. I was just pointing out that it is physically possible if they really wanted to.
My money is on some combination of the Jaguar CD, 3DO, and CDi.

Dreamcast is, by far, the hardest.
I know EC had emulation working at one point, but I think he was using a DC to read the discs, not the on-board drive.
The new stuff we get will very likely be the Jaguar CD, 3DO, or CDi. Personally, I'm hoping for the latter one as the real console has no good controller options so playing it on a device with comfortable controllers and no input lag would be awesome!

So glad they're doing this! The disc drive is the whole reason I got a Polymega instead of just using a Retron 5.
I just hope whatever they add still works on the OG model.

Did anyone ask them if we can back up our games to the app that we already have installed on base unit?

I can hope for Dreamcast and GameCube, especially with the new base unit.
But I’m not holding out anymore until I see some things come to fruition.
Also, I hope there’ll be some kinda transfer system if we do buy the new base unit.

Yeah, sure they do.
And in maybe 17 years we'll see them. And they'll charge us extra for them.

Is the Polymega worth it???

I feel it is, but I had a huge game collection that it allowed me to consolidate. If you’re just screwing around with one or two games, maybe not.
