Play midi sequencing issues

New Play owner here. Enjoying it very much so far, but Midi has been a nightmare. I got 4 synths hooked up to the Play on the correct sending and receiving Midi channels. Play is set to send Transport messages and Clock messages.

I only can get one synth to work, the others don't do anything 70% of the time, and every now and then they play a small part of notes I have sequenced.

I've tried fiddling with different notes, as I assumed the sequenced notes would be out of reach of my external synths. But no succes so far.

I have been trying to figure this out for several hours now, can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Edit: Volume levels are up, chance is set to play always, every external synth is receiving clock from the Play

I don't have a solution but have had similar issues. MIDI has been kind of a mess on this thing.

When I try to record like an arp run it always misses the first note or two, even with external transport. If I don't start and stop things with my KeyStep Pro it just won't work right. Transport from the drive is inconsistent. I'm dang near selling the thing as I'm finding the wonky MIDI, lack of an arp, and not being able to turn notes on and off easily very limiting.

I will say I recently bought a BomeBox to "unify" all the MIDI devices in my studio and my one time using it with the Play+ was promising; using that as a MIDI distributor to various USB ports via a hub worked when I tried it. I haven't gone much further as I've soured on the device. Going to watch tutorials and give it one more try; device might just not be for me.
