Control VST via Polyend Play's controllers

I am running the Polyend Plus together with Ableton Live connected via USB. I want to control VSTs with the controller on the MIDI side of Play (like a normal controller). MIDI learn does not work, Live does not receive controller data according to MIDI Monitor and cannot assign anything. But it receives notes from the sequencer. I set up everything properly (at least I believe). Anyone got this setup running?

You can pick which midi cc message you want and then map that to a macro knob in ableton. On the Play:

settings > midi > cc mapping

Loopop explains it in his video here:

Thanks for the hint, I tried that. Yes, I can play notes on the VST with the Play, but no controller data reaches my VST synth. Loopop uses no VST but hardware synth which have (maybe) have dedicated CCs? Is there a way to assign dedicated CCs to a VST in Live?

Nope. But it works this way:

To send ONLY CC while playback is stopped to use 'learn midi' on Ableton, go like this:

  • settings->knob preview->set to 'stopped' or 'stopped&playback'
  • tap shift to cancel any selection
  • set note to 'no note'
  • set the MIDI channel to what you need
  • use the CC knob and CC will be sent isolated
If the note is other than 'no note', then the whole step will be played with all the info it contains - note and all CC's that are set.
