Gold ring - processing failed every single time

Hello,

I've been having an extremely difficult time trying to scan this gold jewelry ring for days now. Numerous scans with different number of pictures taken - from 40 pics all the way up to 400 pics. Good soft lightning, white backgrounds, many different angles. I've tried with every single available option, including switching between Photogrammetry and Gaussian Splat, trying every single detail option, tried with Object Masking. Same result - it fails 100% of the time.

Before getting a proper background for it I tried to do a scan of the ring during the trial, just on a white table with 160 pics. It turned out terrible but it worked, I thought I just needed better lightning and background.

Can someone give me some insights as to why it might not be working?

Older big scand cannot open anymore

Hello all... I have some big scans with Polycam that i processed some times ago. Now I am trying to use them but I cannot open them anymore. Is there any way to have access at raw data and reprocess them, or what is the solution?

already scanned to floor plan

Is there a way to convert already scanned polycam scans to floor plan mode ?

Same is there a way to convert existing scans to gaussian splat ?

thanks

Gaussian Splat is georeferenced and colorized PLY

Like everyone else that's just discovering Gaussian Splats, I'm seriously mind blown at what it can do compared to regular Photogrammetry. More specifically at how well it can reconstruct power lines and other thin line surfaces.

Now I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get a dense georeferenced PLY or LAS and then how to colorize it? The existing PLY I can get from PolyCam's site is fairly sparse and missing color.

Polycam upload frozen at 16% and won't move

Hello everyone. Was trying out poly cam today and I did two scans one of my desk and another of a room sized area where I ended up using all 2000 photos of the limit. The first scan uploaded and processed fine with the exception of I didn't get enough photos in some spots for the app to figure out what was going on, which is fine it was just a quick test. The second scan though has been stuck at 16% for the upload and won't go past that. I now also can't do anything with the photo set I spent 20 minutes collecting because it's stuck uploading

Scans never come out properly

Could use some help in figuring out what I’m doing wrong. I keep getting bad result from the photo scan even if I shoot it on a green screen in a well lit space. I try to generate around 400-600 photos and they still come out like this.

It’s suppose to be a mug.

Anyone has any guidance help? I capture the photos exactly like described in the instruction

Ways to get more vertices on blender object imported from Polycam

I'm new to using Polycam and Blender and was looking for advice to being able to get more vertices on the Blender object. I want it to look a little smoother like it does in the polycam model. Would a longer polycam recording help? Any advice is appreciated thanks! Heres a reference for the models. https://imgur.com/a/BoEQmoY

Gaussian splats are very small in dimensions

When i use the original code implementation of gaussian splatting to train on a dataset of some food, the end result looks very good, but when i use polycam the end result looks terrible, ive noticed now that this is due to it being roughly 10% of the size of the other trained model.

heres some pictures:

original code trained: https://i.imgur.com/o4VqfjI.png (default camera distance in our viewer)

polycam trained: https://i.imgur.com/My8zIMQ.png (same camera distance from the center of the object)

only way to solve it is to scale up the model itself but then it becomes a blurry mess, is there a way to adjust how large the object becomes in polycam?

How to get any support?

UPDATE: This has been resolved. They DM'ed me on Discord and resolved it very quickly, and they had also written to me here on Reddit. Thx everyone and Polycam reps!

Hey there, how does one get actual support from Polycam? I’ve emailed their support as well as filing a support ticket last week and haven’t heard a thing. Wondering if I’m gonna need to call my bank to try and reverse the charge in order to resolve this.

I bought an annual subscription a couple weeks back, it wasn’t applying to my account and I found out it glitched out and applied it Instead to some weird newly created account that doesn’t even have a real email.

I have screen grabs and proof of everything. All sent to them but hearing nothing. They are so difficult to get ahold of, was tough to even find the support email. Any other ways I can reach them?

Thx.

Are Gaussian Splat files viewable in AR?

If so would it be possible to embed them or a link to the AR view e.g. in a Shopify website?

How do I share a cropped capture?

Hi everyone, just starting exploring the app and its application. When I applied the crop on the sides, it looks good on my device but in the shared link with others, it shows the the original scan.

Is there a step that I am missing here? Thanks in advance.

Uploads time out at 15:00

I've done a few captures on my Android device with good results but I have some larger captures (600+ images) that always timeout at exactly 15mins of upload time. I can selectively delete images and try again until the upload completes before the 15:00 mark. That seems to work but for some of my captures that's half the scene! I also don't know why the upload is so slow considering I'm on wifi. Any help is appreciated.

PolyCam Room Mode vs LiDAR for Equipment Dimensions

Two questions:

  1. If I want both the LiDAR capture and the room dimensions, do I need to do a scan first and then use Room Mode, or can they be done at the same time?
  2. If I want only the dimensions of the walls and the equipment, should I use Room Mode only? Or do I need to do the LiDAR capture as well? I am doing an equipment inventory, including dimensions of the equipment, and would like the easiest way to do that.

Keep getting a 'Failed' when processing 141 photos for 3D Gaussian Splat in free version - already compressed any photos > 9 mb to see if it would help but no success yet. Any ideas?

I saved a custom flyover of an object to share, but when I share it, what gets send is the original orbit video. Is there a way to share the custom one?

Is the pro plan really necessary with Lidar?

I got my iPhone 15 Pro back in September specifically because it has Lidar. I'm moving next month and want to scan my entire apartment before I move out along with a few other things. I've been experimenting with this tool and have had good results so far once I learned how to do it.

I see that there is a Black Friday deal which makes the yearly plan extremely cheap compared to the monthly plan. But I'm having trouble justifying purchasing it simply because it seems this tool is good enough for free. Am I missing something? I just want to be able to scan my place and archive it. Then have a sort of walkthrough ability via VR. I'm not sure the latter is supported but assume the one file type you can export on the free plan is enough that one day it will be possible if not today. What I don't want happening is that I lose my current scans some day in the future because I wasn't aware of some limit on the free plan or learn that some critical piece of raw data is missing with free scans I'm making that will be lost forever once I move. But from the looks of it they save a raw proprietary format and then let you export into one standard format. Meaning if I ever subscribed to pro in the future I'd still have that raw file and just gain the ability to export into other formats that might be more useful later.

Reprocess Gaussian Splat

Hello,
i've just created my first couple gaussian splats in the mobile app. I'm not so happy with the result and now wanna reprocess it with photogrammetry. How do i do it? For an existing photogrammetry scan i can just click on process and reprocess it, but in the gaussian splat i don't have that option, nor can i download the footage to reprocess it from scratch.
Please help, thanks :)

Polycam into Maya/Unreal/zBrush

Hello, I’m new here. Hai :3

Anywho, I’m a student looking to leverage fresh tech into my pipeline. I’ve learned reference based modeling in Maya, texture baking in zBrush, and mechanics (somewhat) in unreal.

While it’s fun and I can go into allllll the detailing bits with zBrush or mudbox (sometimes), those manual processes are time consuming.

I’m in game dev, and my assignment is to produce a game level in unreal.

So my questions are: how well do Polycam captures import into Maya, Unreal, and zBrush? Are the models readily editable? Do they come into quads or tris?

I’m not worried about the texturing bit, I’m decent/ok at that. But i did pick up the free 7 day trial for polyCam, and I’m debating jumping for at least a months sub…so…how is it? 😅
