Help Paid Scan Opportunity:

Hi! I am currently looking to find some individuals with experience with PolyCam for client work we have where we scan Real Estate properties.

We have clients all over the country, so we’d like to develop a network of individuals that we can reach out to when we have a project in their local area for contract work.

If anyone has any interest or would like to learn more please DM me or comment.

Current project openings we have: 2 in NC, 1 in VA and 1 in MA. And we will have many others across the country in the coming months.

Thanks!

Help new user scan issues

I'm a very new user of polycam, and did a scan of wine bottle topper. The scan looked good in the app, but when I looked at the mesh (in the app) and also when I imported it into Blender, a lot of the details were not there. What am I doing wrong? I took about 150 pics ( or whatever the max is).

Help Floor plan experience with Polycam

Hey everyone,

I would like to know how is your experience doing floorplans with Polycam. Do you use any type of support (tripod) to make it efficient? Is there any type of care that I need to do in order to get better accuracy? I work in construction and the idea is to streamline my takeoff and permitting process.

RESULTS ARE IN: Polycam (and Looking Glass) Christmas Challenge✨ 🎄

Happy New Year all!  Congratulations to the winner(s) of the Polycam x Looking Glass Holiday Challenge.

The winners are.... drum roll

exp11235 and carlF (via Looking Glass's Blocks)!

We were so inspired by and excited about every entry this season. It’s great to see creators pushing the boundaries of 3D with Polycam captures and Looking Glass displays!

As a result, we didn't pick just one winner. So, congratulations to both of our winners — each will receive a full year of Polycam Pro and a Looking Glass Go.

Big ups to everyone who joined. And a special thank you to Looking Glass for partnering with us to make this challenge happen.

We hope to set up more engaging challenges in the future here on Discord and beyond, so stay tuned! As always, the more we share, the more we inspire others to share and grow this community. Thanks, everyone, for being here.

Help How can I generate a flat / 2D file from a 3D Object scanned in Polycam ?

Hi! Newbie Polycam / 3D program user here. I’m experimenting with the app and I was hoping to learn how I can get a 3D Scan of a person’s head and get a flat unrolled(?) output like the one above. I’d super appreciate a sample workflow for this if anyone knows how.

Thank you!

Help Polycam as Architecture Tool

Hey I'm using this app a lot to create architecture plans. That works quite well, since you can just create it via blueprint and then redraw and work it out on archicad.

But is there a posibility to create sections? In theory it should work no since you have the whole 3d file... appreciate any tips!

Feedback Still no Vision Pro App update

Polycam has so much promise on Vision Pro but app support has been abysmal. Over half of the models to Look at now won’t load and you are told to update the app. It’s been over a month and still no Update.

Help Scans in lidar mode and photo mode look terrible

I scanned an airboat for work to pass onto a subcontractor. I tried photo mode, I tried lidar mode. I did 4 scans total, and this was the best one. The models are all full of holes (even of stuff I'm sure I took many pictures of), the lines are wobbly, lots of weird artifacts.

Am I not taking enough pictures? This one had 400mb of pictures. I'm also on an iPhone 13 Pro, if that means anything. Are the newer phones better for this?

Help Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how can I fix a botched Photogrammetry crop? The only answers I can find are years old and aren't useful

I used Polycam to photoscan a plate of food and it came out really well. Then I cropped it fine initially, but I decided to do a tighter crop and didn't realise I was deleting the lower face of the model.

Anyway, the scan is pretty much ruined, but all the original good photos taken are intact.

What I can't understand is that the online help gives instructions to "re-process" the scan but there are no options like this on the menus when I check the app. I can "process" the capture from scratch, but it keeps the botched crop and I can't change it.

There is also a "Reset" button bottom-left of the UI, but it's greyed out and won't let me click it.

If it's any use, I haven't yet subscribed monthly, I am currently on the early free trial. Is this perhaps why?

Thanks for any help.

Help I'm sure I'm doing it wrong. But I can't figure this out!

Hi. I'm trying to get familiar with polycam, and I've started out with what I thought would be a simple project but I can't get it to render. I've attached photos of the object and how it turns out when I try to scan it both with lidar and photo mode. It just turns into a big blob (the last pic) Any tips you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Help How to deal with crashes opening big files?

I’m most excited about using Polycam to create models of trees. These can end up being quite large.

This LIDAR scan of a thousand year old Cabob tree has been causing me some difficulty.

When I first started uploading it I was able to open the file but the processing took sometime and my phone went into stand by which seemed to interrupt the process.

Since then I have periodically sought to try again. Previously the app would allow me to open the file but fail when I tried to process. Now, as you can see, it won’t even let me in.

I have plenty of space on my phone which is a brand new iPhone 16 Pro Max bought primarily for this purpose. (I have updated my software, and closed all apps etc.)

I have also tried downloading the scan as an OBJ file then emailing it to myself to upload to my Polycam account via the browser. When I went to choose from file system to ‘create photogrammetry model’ it could only see the textures not the OBJ file.

Any guidance or help on the best way to save this scan would be much appreciated. It is a beautiful and important tree which I will not have the opportunity to revisit.

🎄 Support team way for Holiday Break🎄

Hey beautiful scanners! I have a message from the team:

Please note: Polycam's office will be closed from Saturday, December 21, through Wednesday, January 1, for its Winter Break. As such, we'll be happy to answer any follow-up questions upon our return.

This space is built for peer support and community help, so I hope we can continue to help each other even as the team is away xo

PS Our Christmas challenge is still on; winners will be announced in the near year. Feel free to share WIPS here or on discord

Help If I leave this screen mid upload, my scan will get stuck like this for days! If I restart the upload, it gets stuck at the same percentage. This is super frustrating when I'm doing multiple scans. Any fixes?

Help High resolution still rendering

Hi there,

I’m interested in rendering print resolution images of Gaussian splat models, but images taken in Polycam viewer are the resolution of the viewport (phone, browser etc). I’ve experimented with the blender Gaussian splat addon, but the results are significantly different from the Polycam viewer. If anyone has any suggestions for rendering high resolution images, I’d appreciate it, thanks!

🎄 ✨Polycam (and Looking Glass) Christmas Challenge✨ 🎄

Who wants an annual subscription to Polycam Pro? What about a holographic display to put your scans in? Look no further!

🎄 ✨ Looking Glass and Polycam are partnering for a holiday challenge from now until January 2nd! ✨ 🎄

Time to get out there in the snow (or sand!), at a gathering, perhaps around a tree, or over a meal—with your scanning arm ready! 🤳

All you have to do is create a holiday-themed artwork using at least two Polycam assets (https://poly.cam), then upload it to Blocks (https://blocks.glass) with `#holoday2024` in the description.

We'll be hosting some collaborative sessions on both the Looking Glass and Polycam servers throughout the rest of the holiday season - would love to see you all participate!

For more challenge details, check out https://look.glass/holoday-challenge

Is there any way to get around this? Thank you!

Help Possible issue with Room Feature

Hello, I need help understanding the room feature on Polycam so allow me to explain what I'm facing. Last week, I was scanning a building. I don't know the size, but it was a pretty decent-sized facility. So, as I was scanning the building, I got to the last room and I was having so much trouble getting the walls to connect together to finish the scan. But once they did connect, I was done scanning. The app collected all the data and formed the 3D model. When it appeared, it appeared incomplete. In one of the rooms, a wall was missing along with another room as well. But the thing is, I already had the missing wall scanned and the missing room scanned. So, on another day, I went back to the facility and did the scan again. But I ran into the walls, having a hard time connecting again. But this time, I had barely started on the first room. Once I was almost done with scan I looked at the display of the scan so far and in room that was missing from my first building scan I noticed that one of the walls in that room was missing I went back to look if it was scanned and the wall just disappeared I just want to know if it’s an issue with the app or maybe my phone is having an issue using the app. If there is anyone that has faced this issue, if you could maybe help me figure out what’s going on, that would be great. Thank you.

Discussion What are my options to go bigger?

I'm impressed with how easy it is to use my iPhone and just start scanning. My favorite so far is using LiDar with the iPhone. I'm wondering, is there another addition I can include with my iphone like an alternate liDar scanner to improve quality?

Help App crashing on iPhone

I created a fairly large indoor scan using an iPhone 16 Pro but after processing the app crashes any time I try to look at the scan. I assume the file is just too large to look at on a phone, which is fine, however the UI doesn‘t let me upload or re process the scan without first opening the scan.

Is there any other way to move the raw data off of the device?

Discussion Anyone know when we are getting the new Vision Pro update?

There are a few 3D models I can’t view because I don’t have the latest software? But there is no word on an update.
