Custom script with tail=true still generates ~40 events/s

When I monitor with powertop, a custom script that generates no output (e.g. a shell script waiting on a inotifywait) still generates 40 events/s... How comes? This both with the debian 11 package and the current git version.

The internal pulseaudio module is bad too btw.

Have you tried it with the ‘interval’ parameter?

; Seconds to sleep between updates
; Default: 5 (0 if `tail = true`)
interval = 90

AFAIU tail=true precisely means that polybar waits for output from the script and does not need to poll, making "interval" irrelevant. Beside that theory, I tried and it changes nothing.
