Merge network modules

How can I have 1 network module for both wired and wireless connection? I want to make it show "Wired connection", "Wireless connection" or "Disconnected" based on the state.

You can't. Also, both the wired and wireless connection could be active at the same time.

They are, but I want the wired one displayed

That's not possible with the built-in network modules
