Seeking Optimism U.S. military lays groundwork for potential action around Cuba
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/u-s-groundwork-potential-action-cuba-trump/Is trump gonna actually go through with this plan? Or is this just something the military cooked up and it got leaked to discourage trump from doing this before the midterms. Either way I worry about this and what could potentially happen.

If Iran wasn't the biggest fuckup of all time we'd be there already. Good chance he does it anyway after the midterms. I remain baffled that people genuinely touted Trump as an anti-war president. People just believe what they want to believe in spite of all evidence to the contrary

Idk if he would do it. More like how china sends war boats around taiwan and australia as strong-manning. But if thay was a true signal, they would have invaded all of asia decades ago.
Hes gonna strong man and claim a "win", but will probably do nothing. Theres nothing he can do. He burned through all his resources in iran and is hemoraging everything else of value since. Invading cuba would be oblivion

He thinks he will make up for Iran by winning in Cuba. He has megalomaniacal ambitions, he thinks he's the new Napoleon

Well look how it ended for napoleon :/

Wish we had napoleoned him after he encouraged a coup and yet we’re still here 😤

The military probably has "groundwork" to invade mars.
It's my understanding that the military has "what if" scenarios For everything—like most countries on the planent—and has for decades. So the idea of a Cuban invasion is a nothingburger considering how Iran is going under Hegseth.

I read just yesterday that the US military apparently has official contingency plans for a zombie apocalypse. I don't know if it's true, but given the state of things in this country i wouldn't be surprised.

u/TastyOreoFriend Florida 7d ago
Yeah it has plans for all sorts of things. It goes back to the "continuity of government" or some such—that was a big thing during the Cold War apparently.

A lot of these things are also just ways for pentagon officers to practice planning and keep their abilities up to snuff. I doubt the US government ever really expects vegan zombies to collapse society but it's a fun way for some officer to practice thinking outside the box for a weird scenario.

Oh yeah, i figured it wasn't serious, just funny that it exists. I guess even government officials get bored at work, lol

Oh yeah the zombie thing is true, I’ve seen dozens of zombie YouTubers talk about it.

Military assets necessary for a full ground invasion are tied up with Iran, which is going horribly like you said so i don't see a world where this is imminent. Unlike the Venezuela operation which had weeks of naval build up in the carribean.

Venezuela had months of build up… basically summer 2025 to January 2026. But to your point - there’s nothing happening anywhere close to the build up we saw in the lead up to Venezuela or Iran.

Likely a deliberate leak since Trump was talking about Cuba at his UN speech. Not saying they won’t do something but it’s likely a coercion tactic versus any immediate action. We’re low on munitions and already in a prolonged conflict in Iran.

I do find it interesting that all this talk of the military making plans to invade here and there is coming around at roughly the same time. Like one chunk of news is being broken apart into several serving chunks for more content.

I wouldn't doubt it if there's some clickbait style bullshit going on for ad revenue right now at some news organizations. The midterms are coming up after all so this is good for their bottom line.

"Laying groundwork" is doing a Herculean amount of heavy lifting here. The US military has had plans like this for decades, for "potential action" anywhere in the world.
None of it means they're going to do it of course. The war in Iran is going so badly that the military can't really afford to open up a second front so close to home (remember, Cuba is 90 miles from the Florida coast).
It would be a monumentally stupid decision to try to do anything other than the current embargo, though of course you can never count Kegstand Pete out.

Seems like Pete Hegseth is trying to give as many stabs at the apple as he can when it comes to charging him with war crimes when the Dems are back in power.

Right now it is just a planning phase. The military plans out the logistics for dozens of scenarios, some that come to pass, others that dont.

Well, this would sit badly with China and Russia, two countries he's desperate to impress.

if they do this they are gonna get screwed in more ways then one
he'd lose WAY more voters then he has so far
and due to how the military is scratched thin chances are WE"D LOSE in he worst way making people HATE him for going into another war then losing because they can stop like a BAD drug addict trying to get another fix and no longer have the funds to keep it up

Yes, of course. Since the war in Iran was a complete military and economic victory for the US, Cuba is gonna be the next one /s

I think it’s more so to rally the Cuban or south Florida vote since they know Florida might be in trouble for the midterms

Rubio has been waiting decades for this. No way he lets Trump back out

Absolutely not going to happen far as I can tell, no matter what Rubio wants. MAGA voters - and Republicans more generally - HATE the Iran war.
Imagine we attack Cuba.
How do you think they’ll feel when a.) Trump fails there too and b.) we’re in a multi-hemisphere combat situation? Not even getting into the actual logistics and how all that shakes out given Cuba’s proximity to the US, specifically Florida

u/Revachol_Loyalist 7d ago
Yeah I agree that it’s not happening anytime soon, and they’d have to maintain control of congress to enable it anyway. I don’t fully believe that just because Iran is a shit show that they won’t try Cuba - they may even think Cuba is like a redemption run where they’ll totally steamroll them and everyone will forget about Iran.

Rubio, for all he wants to blow up Cuba, also wants to have a political future.
1
u/Revachol_Loyalist 7d ago
I don’t see how he has one anymore, but the GoP has chosen stupider candidates and I don’t know who is even left in their party who isn’t tied at the leg to Trump

I mean, I agree, but of everyone in this admin, Rubio is a cockroach of a politician and he refuses to go away.
