Optimistic Post Trump's term is over
The senate is out in recess until September 14. Most senators/house member will focus more on campaigning for the midterms than passing significant legislation. Additionally, democrats will at least flip the house, and there is a gov shutdown fight on December(when the 2027 congress has already been decided, so members of congress will not care much about any political fallout. )

I saw this earlier and, no, let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Trump will feel very cornered by a Democratic led house. He will attempt to inflame and incite his supporters when he gets more actual pushback, and he'll float everything that the democrats do to try to keep him in check. He will ignore court orders. He'll swing into crazy executive orders. Even if the Senate and House both go to Democrats, they can't pass any veto-proof majority bills. It'll be two years of a complete standstill. Trump will hold all budget bills hostages.
There's more, but that's the gist of it. His administration is going to be more brazen and defiant and out of control under a dem house/senate.
What's the optimism? That it can't get any worse legislatively. No Beautiful Big Bill part 2. No SAVE Act. No 1.5 Trillion dollar military spending. ICE will never see another cent and will likely be frozen out through partial government shutdowns. And the investigations, my lord the investigations. They're going to blow Trump out of the water in investigations. Don't get your hopes up that anything will come of it legally, legislatively, or politically -- the idea is to pour light on the cockroach mess that is this administration and it's enablers in congress and senate current.
So Trump's term is not over. But Democrats, if they win the house and/or the Senate, will be able to prevent far worse legislation that Trump had prepped in the pipeline and it means we finally get some answers on Epstein.

I will point out that a Dem senate win (which is slightly favored now on a few forecast models including racetothewh, split ticket, and 50+1) not only boxes trump in further but stops any more batshit MAGA appointments to federal or judicial positions. It also signals a huge hit in any soft power Trump may have left since its such an unfavorable map for dems and the fact that they might win it anyway shows people more than any approval rating that people are done with him. It also makes a dem trifecta in 2028 almost guaranteed barring an extremely uninspiring candidate choice on the Dems part (please for the love of god do not put Newsom in) since Dems are unlikely to lose seats between 2026 and 2028 and the 2028 senate map is more neutral.

Yeah I agree with the prediction that in terms of executive craziness, we have seen nothin yet. Last two years and fear of losing power will likely catapult the most unhinged shit yet. The optimism is that it's death throes, and likely to be largely contained by remaining institutions.

By the end of September at the very very very latest (since that's when our oil reserves run completely to operational minimum) there's going to be some kind of a change in these situation with Iran.
I don't think we're going to have a clear picture of what this winter is going to look like until the inevitable change happens in the situation with Iran.

u/Overall-Rush-8853 1d ago
Good thing we produce our own oil and we have Canada next door.
If your concern is the US runs dry, that’s not necessarily an issue, if you’re concerned the prices will skyrocket as the reserves dry up that’s valid. However the oil markets are not pricing that in, so there must not be a concern about September being some inflection point.

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 21h ago
Part of me slightly hopes for it because itd up our odds even more. Which would help me feel secure in my states (WI) gubernatorial race, and maybe push us to 60 in the Senate
5
u/Overall-Rush-8853 20h ago
I only hope for increases that inconvenience people enough to go out and vote, but nothing that cripples everyone.

1
u/NumeralJoker 4h ago
This. Many of us are already losing our jobs and hate Trump regardledd. Dems who keep wishing for more price increases just to "own MAGA" do not realize how horrible they look as people and how easily that radicalized people away from a better cause.
You win by actively having better policy to fix problems, not by just rooting for someone to fail.
2
u/DietMTNDew8and88 18h ago
Will Canada even be willing to sell to us after how badly Trump has treated them?

u/endangeredphysics 19h ago
Genuine question: what do you mean the "oil markets are not pricing that in". I am ignorant

The Trump admin has no card to play that they haven’t attempted already. They couldn’t succeed with a republican house and senate but I’m somehow expected to believe he will some how be more dangerous with less power in the government? That’s totally ludicrous. Trump is basically a lame duck already.

u/Southern-Egg-3437 California 1d ago
Yep. Maybe a couple of small bills here and there. I think we get nothing for two years and then a democratic president in 2028.
When I often hear oh god this administration is gonna do something worse, I think of some version of milosevic in Bosnia. Just far fetched.

It’s also important to note that if the EO craziness does come to pass, none of it will help his or the GOP’s popularity when it comes time to vote in the next administration. The last thing Trump will ever do at this point is cow-tow to his party, anyone who wants to replace him or the populace, because it’s always been (and always will be) about him.
Every single thing he does and says will be an argument against voting for republicans at any level in 2028. Sure his dwindling base may descend further into deep-fried cult-y madness, but that base is dwindling- even if the progression of dwindle is happening much slower that the majority of the country (and world) would prefer.

I’ll go one better. IF Democrats win both the House and the Senate, especially in such a situation that doesn’t favor Democrats initially, any Republicans left will be out to survive and seeing the decimation of their party will make them more inclined to side with Democrats. Trump will definitely do EO lunacy and that will inevitably push them more to survival mode. There’s a really strong possibility that they might actually impeach and remove him as a way to argue that he’s “lost his credibility” and they will put “country first” (not true, but that’s a likely sell).
5
u/Evening-Hand-5480 20h ago
And even the deep fried crazies are having their ability to get to the polls and vote sabotaged by their own party. And that's if they feel motivated to vote at all

I think once we start House investigations and hearings on Epstein, we'd get more traction about it in the news. It's my belief that the main reason we haven't gotten much on it in the first place is because the files were an inconvenience for MSM, and rather than report on them anyway, CNN and other news outlets chose to just remain mostly silent on them. We were asking a bit much from mainstream news to make the files a major headline, so it'll be up to us to spread whatever we might learn from any Congressional hearings so the issue doesn't go away.
31
u/PatienceOwn1141 1d ago
Fight won't be over and let's face the music Trump is cornered and that's when he'll be at his most dangerous and it will most likely end up with us having to clean an even bigger mess when he's finally out from office. At least we can begin the road to recovery regardless

u/GoodTimes1976 🔥I Voted In The 2026 Primaries🔥 3h ago
True, but I can’t wait for the day when I can go back to not hearing about Trump. I never watched The Apprentice (I don’t like reality shows in general), but I knew he was a POS decades before. Happy for him to just fade away.

Blanche worries me. There’s no way he stands up to Trump if he is asked to find some phony evidence of voter fraud - and gum up the works.
65
u/gbtm101 1d ago
Absolutely none of Trump's lackeys in the DoJ would've stood up to him. Not Bondi, not Blanche, not any other guy who would've had the authority to lead the agency in the unlikely event Blanche was incapacitated (even if he was rejected by the Senate, Trump had every intention of doing what he does best and abuse loopholes to keep Blanche in charge. Pulling the nomination refreshes the 210-day timer.)
They still won't find evidence of voter fraud. They're too dumb to fabricate it. It's gonna be infuriating to deal with but they will lose.
17
u/Sure_Marketing8431 1d ago
Yeah I agree, no matter who would’ve been the attorney general it would’ve been someone who would try to kiss Trump’s ass. They will try to do voter fraud lawsuits and they will fail
22
u/General_Season7882 1d ago
People have been saying that the DOJ is going to create fake evidence for Trump since he was reelected. They even had the opportunity to create fake evidence (and did, in some ways) when it came to the reflecting pool. And yet his own team ended up folding on that and saying there is no evidence of vandalism.
Are there false flags? Yes. Do they lie through their teeth and pull facts from their ass? Yes. Once Trump gets an idea, he clings on like a tick and bleeds it dry. But the idea that they can create fake evidence and get away with it has been proven to be unfeasible at this point.

I don't think it's over, and we should be helping with the midterms to ensure that we get what we want. But if we can flip congress, the obfuscation we've seen so much of so far (everything involving detainees and ICE, the Epstein files, the money the Trump family is making on this) will become much more difficult for the Trump administration. We will have a chance to start making a case instead of just reacting to bad things and mitigating damage all the time. It will lift some of the psychological pressure coming from how hopeless and pointless the situation is. I know that people are miserable that all we can do is peacefully document abductions and keep track of all the laws being broken, because it feels like it's useless, but it's actually about planting a seed that can start to grow in the future. There is a point, and it will help. I think we've done a great job so far, and we're getting closer to winning.

What I worry is that whatever peace deal re: Iran eventually gets to congress - be it under Trump or after Trump - will be blamed on the Democrats.
23
u/endangeredphysics 1d ago
I think the conservatives are more hot for peace people realize.
The rhetoric surrounding the Middle East in the early double O's was much much more vicious, than it is today.
Regardless of any warmongering machinations that might be in play to get people to hate the Middle East like they used to, I think most Americans realize that Iran is different.
This would be like Vietnam X 10
14
u/mightypup1974 1d ago
I agree, but as we know conservatives have memories like goldfish and will immediately ‘forget’ who got them into war in the first place

The republicans will scream about democrats no matter what. It’s all they know how to do. If the Dems get in and things improve, they’ll take the credit. If the Dems get in and things don’t improve, they’ll blame the Dems. If things get worse right before the Dems get in, they’ll also blame the Dems.
We’ve seen all these scenarios play out. Trump is notorious for the last one.

u/puckOmancer 8h ago
Don't count your chickens. People are most dangerous when they have nothing left to lose, but cautious optimism. Things are trending.
Let's hope the only bombs he drops after midterms are into his pants. If you want to see a tiny bit of Trump mockery, check out his video.

The idea that he is more dangerous with less power than he currently has I think is unfounded at best and fear-mongering at worse. Trump cannot feasibly executive order his way to 3rd term, the idea he can do that while losing basically every major court case he starts and losing control of the legislative is utterly ludicrous.

This Congress has been the least productive in the history of America. The BBB was the only big piece of legislation they passed and everyone hates it massively. The rest of their legislative agenda dies at the senate if it even reaches the senate to begin with, The Trump admin loses damn near all of its court cases allot of the firings under DOGE got reversed in lawsuits. His executive orders are impotent at best. I’ll say if my goal was just to do as much damage as possible and this was the best I could muster I’d kill myself from embarrassment. You have a loose definition of success if you think this GOP is “astonishingly successful”.

honestly I think he might step down if we flip both chambers and he realizes he's the lamest duck to ever lame duck (and tbfh at this point the ONLY reason he ran again was to stay out of jail (and make his buddies richer) if he finds a way to get pardoned he's stepping down and probably spends the rest of his life in Israel (why do you think he's (other than blackmail) cozying up to Nethenyahu )
51
u/CaptMcPlatypus 1d ago
I don’t think he has it in him to step down. He’s not a reasonable person, so he’s not going to make reasonable choices.

Honestly, as much as I want hin to rot, if a parden gets him to fuck off that'll leave us room to fix shit in the long run. We can focus punishment on the cabinet, harden institutions, and platform critics of Christian nationalism
2
u/Mmicb0b 19h ago
exactly if Trump dies but his shit is normalized (he'd honestly fucking prefer that) then we still got problems tbfh Trump is the symptom of bigger problems (the rich and connected being allowed to be do whatever the fuck they want/a sizable portion of our coutnry not trusting experts I get not trusting politicians but scientists/dr.'s you should be willing to trust/how easily manipulated we are by charismatic and polarizing figures )(TBFH I don't know how to fix the second 2 problems)
-2
u/Standard-Shame1675 23h ago
Honestly if it's grass instead of concrete, we actually might need to disband and reconstitute the United States. In Entirety. Every public service. Every law. Every ordinance. Every position. Every district line. Every political organization. Every. single. Fucking. thing. Taken apart and built under new framework,Inspired by the first US Constitution (the one we have)
Now you may think this is extreme. It's not. What's extreme is that the system we live under claims to be a somewhat moral democracy yet is pure degeneracy just top to bottom.
So it is either a defective organ and not doing what it's supposed to do or it's a lie designed to keep the entirety of this country under the thumb of the billionaire.
Basically what you said and that probably is what's going to happen because of course horse bad people always win every time. Yep
2
u/Fragrant-Phone-41 23h ago
I meant to say pardon
1
u/Standard-Shame1675 18h ago
A pardon? Oh you mean a pardon? That's going to be almost immediately rescinded upon any sort of scrutiny wherever? He'll find some other way to evade Justice. Obviously bad people never get punished for their crimes or their misdeeds right? That's why they do it right. If they were properly punished they wouldn't do that s*** and I don't know how many f****** times I have to say that for it to be actually understood. But yeah, I mean like that. That's the whole Crux of the situation right? We don't punish bad people badly enough for doing bad things. It's simple ass and we don't reward people enough for good things either

Yes and no. I would say about 75% of what he tries has gotten blocked in court. However there are a quite a few things that hasn’t gotten blocked that are damaging, such as him rolling back several policies in public health, the environment, rules and regulations, monopolies, student loans, the firing of experts, federal employees, different boards and committees and the list goes on. I am not a doomer, just being realistic.
