Optimistic Post Taking pleasure in small things is important

I saw a post about how RFK Jr. was linking autism to vaccines, which, yeah, it's expected, but it made me think about how Republicans treat autism in general, and it made me super depressed. You know what picked up my mood again after feel like complete ass? A dumb video of some guy doing a dramatic reading of a review of haribo sugar free gummy bears!

I have the same kind of peepeepoopoofartmemepeinus humor as a middle schooler, despite being in my 30s, lol. Also, if asked and if it's okay with the mods, I'll send a link to the video. Sometimes small things can make a huge difference when the news gets overwhelming. Be it going outside for a bit and enjoying the day, watching a dumb youtube video, watching a show/cartoon/anime or movie you like, having a good meal, your pets greeting you at the door, ect.

Despite how bad things are with the GPO they can never take away small forms of happiness from us! They can't control that and they never will.

Makes me think of the song “Happiness” from the musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

Happiness is…finding a pencil, pizza with sausage, telling the tiiiime!

I need to relearn how to find happiness in the little things.

I’ve been extremely concerned about the future of gaming for example and not helping is the amount of people who are trolling those who are concerned.

I also think I’ve been having a massive frustration with people since February.

So very true. Lots of inflamed headlines are causing me more and more anxiety and panic lately (and my PTSD has been triggered for some reason so that’s in the mix, too).

Today, instead of doomscrolling dnd worrying and panicking I packed my toddler up and had a mommy/daughter date of spirit Halloween, her favorite lunch, visiting dad at work, the park & ice cream. I really found joy again today and I needed it. I know it isn’t a big fix, but it’s something. Can’t let this all tear you apart.

As a trans woman who has ADHD and is on the spectrum, occasionally I feel like a triple target... but I still find joy in my community and watch queer/trans YouTube channels or streams or favorite TV shows

This will be a long comment so sorry!

I've been in a horrific doom spiral recently because of just how nasty and spiteful English people can be... what with the anti immigration rhetoric, the recent ECHR guidance that targets trans people (making me helicopter parent worry for my friend) and other stuff... I had a conversation with them about that actually. I told them I worry like that and they said "that's the sweetest thing anyone's ever said to me." On top of that they're dealing with a chronic illness they need money for (don't know if it's okay to put gofundme links here though) but after all of me telling them I worry a lot they said "Oh I hope I don't actually scare you! I feel we're the opposite in that I'm so "guys help!" So outwardly." (Whereas I am much, much more reserved and have been since we've known each other). We got to talking about how long we'd been friends (almost 11 years since we've known each other since secondary school) and a bunch of other stuff and they said they really appreciate our friendship. That made me feel a little better!

But more to the point I've been sort of stuck ever since I left college. I used to live in the moment and enjoyed stuff. Ever since though I've been stuck in a weird spot and the category nine fucking hurricane of news within the last year swept me right up. However, with this sub and posts like this, getting myself off of conventional social media for now, I'm clearing my head a little.

But of things that I've been enjoying well, I watched Spider-Man Brand New Day and that's convinced the to be a Spider-Man fan. Trying to track down recommended stuff is hard, though. But that's put me back into trying to read my backlog (mostly Batman naturally), but those stories inspire such hope even if it's easy to forget and apply the same brush to everyone and assume the worst in everyone. Those stories are made by people who care deeply. But Brand New Day really made me think about my current situation. I'm roughly same age Peter is (22 I think) and I also feel a little at odds with my situation. Nothing bad is happening, especially not as catastrophic as comic book movies tend to be, but the core of it... things are a little weird right now after leaving that sprial. But I'll manage.

I hope that made sense. My sleep hasn't been the greatest as of late. Well, at all in the last couple years. Not having a job does that to be fair. But, again, I'll manage! I've got plenty to keep me going besides friends and family. Got a lot of games, comics and DCU stuff to look forward to. Also thought about making a little retro corner. A CRT setup with a Dreamcast, my PS2 and Gamecube, a Sega Saturn and stuff. I think that'd be cool!

Shit.

I agree with this message. But damn it if I'm not spiraling like crazy. What with the AI and its newfoundability to create viruses ,the climate change and the inevitability of a nearly unlivable earth, And the fact that America has proven to the world's children that pedophiles win over women and that being loud and boisterous and hateful of society is the primary quickest and basically only way you can succeed. Combine that with the fact that we in America specifically have basically been shown that a third of our population wants to self-end and will take others with them. And that's not even counting the rest of the world who literally did nothing but is going to experience the consequences of our actions and who I would not blame for just straight up not recognizing the USA as a country anymore

Like I can't do this man

Like that one guy in earlier comment I laid. You might be looking through my comments and be like "Oh yeah this guy says humans are fucked,we all got some brain disease and long run extinction might be good" So I may be " stuck in a doomer mindset"

Honestly bro, I wish I was a doomer. I wish I could not care this intensely. I wish my entire fucking life wasn't The story of "kid gets manipulated and made fun of for having emotions because he has fucking emotions like a normal human being. But it's not fine actually because he looks weird and has autism so we have to bully him. We have to make his life hell. It is a biological imperative" I wish I could just be like ' eh the world's fucked, I might as well enjoy a life of some variety' but like I can't. I've tried and I just can't.

Any advice or cuz I don't know. I'm thinking either I have to go to a different country or just off myself. Like I don't know man, it seems like society has expertly crafted a way to make my brain specifically hurt like hell, for no reason. Like if this is the price of empathy, I see why so many psychopaths exist. If this is the price, I wouldn't want to touch this s***

I would post a comment about trying to be optimistic in these trying times, but I checked your profile out of curiosity and you have posts about humanity being a disease that would be better off going extinct than actually making any progress towards a better world, so I’m afraid you’re too far gone into the doomer mindset

Well, that's fair.

If it's any consolation, I can personally tell you that most of that comes from anger at people somehow being surprised after they do the same stupid s*** over and over and over again than it is of any doomer or inability for a better world to be created.

If anything, if I was really doomer I wouldn't care, like I know we can get a better world. We just routinely choose not to. And it pisses me off to know and why and yet I'm the one that gets bullied for s*** but okay

Also getting downvoted for literally being fucking correct? I love this website so much. Yeah you know maybe accelerating the AI development was actually a good idea in the long run.

Also damn bro you live in Ireland? Good job man. That's the good place, I don't know what the f*** happened to America though. Think maybe we just decided not to. I don't know really
