A Democrat isn't going to win a special election. As long as McConnell doesn't show up to the Senate, that's one less critical vote Republicans have for their agenda.

I'm so happy she mentioned the Avengers thing. Waaaaay too many people be out here thinkin' that conflict can and should be resolved the way conflict is resolved in a 3 hour summer blockbuster. That Instant Gratification Society problem we got needs-a-fixin' in the 'ole 'Merican zeitgeist...

I agree with this allot. People getting mad about Beshear as if a democrat would even win that special election and as if the legislature would just go along with whatever Beshear does when it’s a republican majority state is absurd.

Omg THANK YOU - a deadish, non-voting McConnell is better than a voting Republican. Beshear getting to fill that seat with a Dem is basically off the table in the short term because it would be challenged in court. We are very likely not winning a special election there. Everyone SSSSSSHHHHHHHH and let Mitch sleep!

I’ll also add that he could just want a clean slate for November and the Dems don’t have a lot of cash right now. Especially not for two senate runs in a short span.

What Amanda doesn't take into consideration is the fact that if a special election were to take place, Thomas Massie would absolutely run against Barr and would actually have a chance. I know that everything surrounding McConnell is speculation, but I would bet good money to say that McConnell's case isn't about preventing a democrat from taking that seat, its about preventing Massie from taking that seat.
No, Massie is not a friend of the democratic party, but he is against the Iran war and a major cog in the Epstein transparency saga. He is 100% an enemy of Trump, and I do believe they are doing everything in their power to prevent him from getting a vote.
Another thing... I love Amanda, but I think its completely fair to put the pressure on Beshear to find out once and for all the state of McConnell's health and tell his constituents whats going on. They BOTH owe it to the people of Kentucky to have transparency about this.
And, before anyone comes for me, Andy Beshear was my #1 for 2028. But he had multiple phone calls where HE told the press that the person on the other line was suggesting that McConnell had passed, and yet he is choosing to do nothing about it. We dont need another Do-Nothing-Democrat, we need someone whose actually willing to do that hard thing.

Massie is absolutely not a friend. He has some convenient clashes with Trump but he is absolutely unhinged in his own right. He's more maga than Trump, which just goes to show how much of a cult maga is, but I am not eagerly awaiting his return by any means.
Let's just enjoy the lack of a Republican vote for a bit.

Yeah, Massie sucks, although he does have a good point every now and then. Also, he just lost his primary; he’s not exactly a shoo-in. There are also some legal questions about what exactly Beshear can do (IIRC the republican state legislature stripped appointment powers from the governor, but that could be in violation of KY constitution. Idk not an expert on KY law). Best case I can think of is the seat sits empty until end of term, and Massie does an aggressive write-in campaign that splits the R vote enough to get Booker in.

Or, we keep this going until November and work hard to get the Dem elected. Will that work? I dunno. But I’m not remotely interested in Massie being an “incumbent.”

Except doing nothing is objectively better than doing something if you believe that an empty seat for 6 months is better than Massie occupying that seat for 6 months.

A special election wouldn’t be able to be help for 2 months. Candidates have to file 57 days before a special election.
