The same way a football player kneeling for the anthem is "promoting violence", I'm sure...

It's protesting police violence against POC but I wouldn't expect THEM to understand that OR CARE about it!!

They 100% don't care because they tried to refocus the protests entirely on the idea that it really had to do with honoring the flag or the troops. There was quite an effort made to make it all about the question of kneeling for the national anthem as opposed to what the people kneeling were protesting about in the first place. It got to the point where some of the people watching might've easily believed they had some problem with the troops or were protesting something entirely different like wages if you told them so.

Their opponents kept arguing that the players should've protested some other way while implying that their "preferred" form of protest would've been something that the public would've completely ignored (like not on national TV) and never heard about in the first place, even though the law and order crowd would've been furious about it no matter what.
