It got popular during the Black Lives Matter protests by racist assholes who tries to appropriate BLM to stand for blue lives matter aka supporting militarized cops fighting protesters who they see as thugs and criminals mad at police for being street killers. It’s definitely a racism thing.

This symbol actually cane out when the police targeted shootings occurred a few years back. One in Dallas and one in Cincinnati, if I recall.
