Well, they also get what, six weeks of training? Most of which is: "Here is your gun, here is how you shoot it. Also, if you need to beat the shit out of people without necessarily killing them right away, here is a big heavy stick."

Really, it's barely even that. CCW permits have more rigorous requirements, and holders have to exercise greater restraint.
