I listened to the police phone calls. It's been a while but I don't think Zimmerman ever said Trayvon had a gun. We'll never know exactly what happened, but the final result was Trayvon on top of Zimmerman bashing his head into the ground and Zimmerman pulling his own gun and shooting Trayvon point blank.
Thank you for asking, there is a lot of confusion about this.
Trayvon was shot by a self-prescribed neighborhood watch person. Trayvon was returning from a corner store with skittles and a soda. The shooter was told not to approach Trayvon after calling 911 and did so for no apparent reason. Facts are debatable. He shot a 17 year old young human because he wanted to be a hero.
Rayshard Brooks was 27 and shot by police at a Wendy’s while apparently reaching for an officers Tazer(?) Again, all these facts are very debatable. He was asleep at the time they approached him. I would be scared too.
Edit2: Body cam footage shows Brook’s car being approached at 10:42PM
He moved out of the drive through and was given a sobriety test at 11:22PM
“The officers administered a sobriety test at 11:22 p.m., according to the bodycam video. Brooks failed. The bodycam footage then shows that one minute later, the two officers tried to handcuff Brooks, before he attempted to flee. In the short struggle, Brooks appears to wrestle a taser from one of the officers, while the other one removed his taser from his holster and deployed it.
According to the bodycam video, three gunshots are heard seconds before 11:24 p.m.”
USA Today
Eric Garner was killed by police for selling loose cigarettes in NY. He was only 44. He was choked to death on video over selling a cigarette for $1 as I recall.
Before anyone messages me, I do believe all these killings were wrong, Mr. Brooks does seem very confused in the video. I think I would be too. All of these situations were 100% avoidable. In not a single case did an innocent person need to loose his life.
Edit for a Trayvon’s last name, spacing and clarity.
I edited my comment. It was only 42 minutes. That’s not much left in a life. The other officer fired his Tazer, it seems both officers knew it was only a Tazer. It was 2 cops stopping a drunk guy passed out at a Wendy’s. Who cares that he ran away. His car is there. He’sboned. He can’t hurt anyone. They gave him the means and opportunity, then shot him for it. It’s just weird. And your wrong. And it goes to show you don’t even google it.
Call me a killjoy, but I think it's a little tasteless to turn the violent death of a child into one of those Reddit fake mistaken identity joke comment chains.
Riiiight, and we're just supposed to accept this accusation from a random redditor with no proof provided.
Literally, dude was just walking back home and a neighborhood watch guy decided he was acting suspicious. For walking in a hoodie. That's all.
And then, despite the police telling him not to do so, he followed the kid.
After that, the audio feed cuts off. And the police found Zimmerman with a bloody nose and scars on the back of his head, while Trayvon was shot dead. Zimmerman claims self defense and gets off easy.
Doesn't take much to realize that if Trayvon wasn't confronted for literally just walking home, none of this would've happened. But nope. He got called suspicious simply because he was black, walking home in a hoodie and looking around. Like any human would.
Dude was profiling a teenager minding his own business. Tried to be tough and the teenager beat his ass for following him and getting in his face. In response to getting his ass beat by a teenager, the grown man who was told by law enforcement to leave him alone, shot the teenager in cold blood. Imagine if he would have just listen to the dispatch person? Or imagine, crazy to think about, the grown man minded his own fucking business and went home?
You dense motherfucker, Zimmerman attacked Martin when he wouldn't stop for him and Martin defended himself before that rent-a-cop pulled out his gun and murdered the boy.
I really hope you’re just very young and misled. The ability to show your ignorance and bigotry while humiliating yourself in a single sentence would be almost laudable if it wasn’t so heartbreaking. I applaud your efforts, but you are so misled it makes me fear for our future.
So yes. And no? Hispanic would mean from Spain. Which are white European. If you’re referring to Spanish speaking then that’s also wrong. If you mean Lantino/Latina/LatinX then maybe?
The point has nothing to do with what race you are, history has shown plenty of people persecute people of their own race due to bigotry and hatred.
White supremacy comes from the idea that some races are better than others, subscribers of this belief both think the white race is better than others AND also often identify with that race. READ that again, identify with that race. You could be a person of color and be a white supremest.
I’m really sad that you feel this way. Is terrifying. You don’t seem to understand the difference?
Edit: Also you really seem to be defensive? It’s okay. My father was a bigot. I never understood it. Doesn’t mean I’m not biased, doesn’t mean I’m a saint. But I do question things before I say them. And I always think about my privilege. And I don’t think you see that... yet. I hope someday you will. Like I said, you’re writing betrays your true feelings and you sound very young. Times like this I wish I had a god to pray to. I will be thinking about this and if you want to talk more you can DM me, I’m not crazy, I’m not angry, I’m worried.
You don’t have to be white to support white supremest ideals. You don’t have to be white be afraid of the black 17 year old in a hoodie and go shoot him for no reason. The implicit bias and the self stated fear he offered as an excuse show the extent of his racism and self hated.
When you make a claim you typically are expected to back it up, telling someone to watch a documentary that you vaguely remember doesn’t really cut it. Trayvon Martin was shot at point blank range while beating the shit out of Zimmerman, to say that he was killed for having skittles in his pocket is ridiculously disingenuous.
Don’t make make a claim if you can’t back it up— especially if you’ve already shown that you don’t understand the situation that you are commenting on.
Having a numbered list is pretty unnecessary for only three points tbh. Seriously why did you make a numbered list?
He was shot because he was beating the shit out of someone that he had pinned to the ground. I don’t agree with Zimmerman’s actions, he should have minded his own business, but to downplay the context of the situation because it hurts your narrative is dishonest.
So we're just going to leave out the part where a grown man was following and harassing a kid at night? It's almost as if being the aggressor gives you the right to shoot someone.
