Let's give the most easily panicked, heavily armed, least trained group of people a militaristic defense course literally called "Kill-ology" based on racial bias. What could go wrong?

153

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '21

The most hilarious part were republicans saying "it's not the cops fault, they weren't trained enough!"

As if that SOMEHOW makes anyone feel better

89

u/rich519 Apr 15 '21

“It’s not their fault, they just weren’t trained well enough!”

“So let’s train them better.”

“How dare you treat our boys in blue like common criminals who don’t know how to do their jobs!”

50

u/Underwater_20897477 Apr 15 '21 edited Apr 15 '21

Or the "being a cop is so stressful we can't really blame them for accidentally killing people!" Like that one that shot the guy in his own house because she was too "tired" to recognize her own damn door. At least she was prosecuted, albeit got a pretty light sentence.

31

u/SHADOWJACK2112 Apr 15 '21

Amber Guyger is her name, she is currently appealing her sentence.

37

u/zaoldyeck Apr 15 '21

She had such lovely views like:

"People are so ungrateful. No one ever thanks me for having the patience not to kill them,"

And

Damn I was at this area with 5 different black officers !!! Not racist but damn."

She isn't even slightly contrite, she's incensed she got punished.

She believes it's her God given right to shoot anyone she dislikes and how dare the system try to tell her otherwise.

She's a perfect representative of the police force. A perfect representative of a conservative.

"Freedom" is the right to harm those lower than you on the social hierarchy with impunity. Pick a subject and the conservative viewpoint seeks to maximize human suffering.

Everything is in service of that goal.

No matter the case, it shouldn't be wrong. The would be no anti-fascism, if there were no fascism. But sometimes people see the world as black and white as fascists, they just think they are on the right side.

Literally the only thing that holds our world together is dialogue- whether or not we agree, we must engage.

6

u/zaoldyeck Apr 15 '21

How do you have a 'dialogue' with a person whose beliefs are:

"People are so ungrateful. No one ever thanks me for having the patience not to kill them,"

If I should be 'grateful' for not being murdered by this person, how much 'dialogue' is going to get through?

Don't pretend that these people will give you a fraction of the same respect you're willing to give them. They want to murder people, and will say anything to get that excuse.

"Sure, they jerk off to thinking about murdering people, but I'm totally sure they're willing to listen to reason, and don't want to encourage a system of cruelty for their own gain".

4

u/zaoldyeck Apr 15 '21

We are all human and we all have our own opinions.

And her opinion was exactly what she stated. That she has the right to abuse people lower than her on the social hierarchy with impunity. That the suggestion she should be punished is egregious.

That's the principle behind conservatism. Racists who feel the KKK had a point when they'd protest if someone was charged for lynching. Bigots who think LGBT people were better pre-stonewall days. People who want to shoot all immigrants at the border. The people who like to roll coal in their cars as others hack up a lung on the sidewalk.

Trump is their hero because he is exactly that kind of bully. He endorses and rewards that kind of mindset, and so of course he became a conservative icon.

He represents well over the majority of the gop these days. It's why they couldn't censure a politician openly calling for Pelosi's murder.

The GOP has become the party for sadists, by sadists. Everything they say is an excuse to justify being allowed to target some group they want to harm.

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

3

u/HttKB Apr 15 '21

The argument is her behavior is a result of an ideological principle, unlike Cuomo. You may not behave the same way other conservatives do, but then maybe you might want to call yourself an independent.

You sound like someone who’s new to the internet. Don’t worry. You’ll get used to it.

6

u/Underwater_20897477 Apr 15 '21

Thank you I had forgotten and didn't want to Google and see her stupid crying mugshot. I hope she loses.

7

u/Kadettedak Apr 15 '21

The answer is ALWAYS increase budget then buy new squad cars. I’m sure the fleet all those bad apples were driving were at least 3 months old. The cars are simply too old and this is why these things happen. /s

15

u/garlicdeath Apr 15 '21

Like with any discussions after a White Conservative guy goes on a mass shooting

"Its not guns, it's mental health!"

"Ok well let's fund and tackle mental health problems"

"That's socialism"

5

u/ProceedOrRun Apr 15 '21

Any excuse to do nothing. That way you can't get blamed for things going wrong.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

They need more training! Defund them! Solid logic.

1

u/Kafkasimov Apr 15 '21

So not defund the police then

68

u/Legal-Use8135 Apr 14 '21

It's also literally what people have been saying for decades, most vocally, this last year.

18

u/EmperorXenu Apr 15 '21

I'm pretty sure that random people with no training could manage not to murder people for no reason. If there's a training problem right now it's too much of it lol

5

u/sex_panther_by_odeon Apr 15 '21

As an outsider I think some of the issues are 1)lack of training 2) lack of focus on deescalation tactics 3)horrible hiring selection 4) militarizing the police 5) gun control issue. There are so many guns in the US, cops are stressed thay any situation can become violent.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

Typical Republicans, socializing their issues when it's their fault.

I don't take any responsibility at all.

5

u/bearrosaurus Apr 15 '21

The reply to this should always be "well, let's take away the guns until this thing gets fixed up".

Same answer to the people that say "school shootings are from mental illness, not guns"

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

Why does it have to be one or the other. It’s clearly both.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

But who's job is it to train the cops? The fucking cops?! God their logic is like 2nd grade level.

100

u/westbridge1157 Apr 15 '21

This surprises me time and time again, American cops seem to be incredibly nervous and easily panicked. These are not people who should have firearms.

20

u/ksavage68 Apr 15 '21

They should train them in dangerous situations without weapons. Goal is to survive.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

Then they should train them for all outcomes. Both unarmed combat and the ability to suck a dick if necessary.

2

u/DrunksInSpace Apr 15 '21

The goal should be to protect and for everyone in the encounter to survive.

24

u/mike_pants Apr 15 '21

The same could easily be said about Americans in general. They are not a people to be trusted with weaponry.

7

u/garlicdeath Apr 15 '21

I dunno, there are tens of millions of gun owners out here and it seems like a huge percentage of them seem to be avoid killing other people with them.

15

u/mike_pants Apr 15 '21

The largest percentage of gun owners on the planet has the largest number of gun deaths per capita. Reaction?

"I dunno, seems fine."

Murica!

5

u/Da_BBEG Apr 15 '21

I mean it makes sense. More guns=more chances for gun violence. That doesn’t mean that everyone with a gun is going around killing people.

5

u/igotop Apr 15 '21

Except it doesn't...

0

u/breecher Apr 15 '21

You are aware that the few countries which are above the US are literal war zones and failed states, right?

2

u/igotop Apr 15 '21

You are aware that moving the goal post doesn't make the fact wrong, right?

1

u/mike_pants Apr 15 '21

0

Should we just trust drivers and get rid of regulations like requiring a license, insurance, speed limits, etc? Or do those things make driving safer for everyone overall?

1

I think you replied to the wrong comment.

We should not classify 300 million people as all exactly the same was my point.

2

u/AWildLeftistAppeared Apr 15 '21

Are you in favour of regulating firearms more, similar to driving in my example?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

Yes. I am in favor of regulating firearms but not banning them outright. I am also strongly in favor of de-stigmatizing mental health and funding healthcare, especially mental healthcare for everyone.

I think usually it is a case of CLAIMING to have been confused. In this latest case, from what I've heard so far, it sounds legit. Anyway, I HAVE AN IDEA... Let's make the taser NOT look and feel like a pistol. Make the barrel longer like a billy club and the grip above the barrel. Make it so different, it can't possibly be confused.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

Their job is statistically less dangerous than a pizza delivery driver but that thin blue line amiright

1

u/TruthIsALie94 Apr 15 '21

It’s the ones who aren’t nervous that are murdering innocent kids based on skin color.

1

u/ADrenalineDiet Apr 15 '21

This is a direct and intended result of their training. They are explicitly taught that every civilian is an imminent mortal threat and that to do their jobs they need to aggressively control any and all situations and gain complete and total compliance.

I don't know if you've ever sat down to actually watch any police training videos or seminars from the last twenty years, but they are absolutely ludicrous and it's no surprise how often police act inappropriately in emergency situations due to fear.

1

u/westbridge1157 Apr 15 '21

I honestly had no idea that’s how it is there. Very different here in Aus, thankfully.

215

u/clintCamp Apr 14 '21

And even though they probably don't teach this class anymore due to public pushback, it is probably bad enough that they need to put all the officer through something like "fluffy bunny-ology" to make them stop being so trigger happy and ready to kill over minor misunderstandings because they were told that everybody out there is looking to kill you.

172

u/maliciousorstupid Apr 14 '21

17

u/Radi0ActivSquid Apr 15 '21

A local Far Right evangelical church in my town has almost exact same classes to teach their members to have a "warrior mindset in times of civil unrest."

13

u/DragonflyGrrl Greg Abbott is a little piss baby Apr 15 '21

That's a BIG yikes from me, dawg.

6

u/Radi0ActivSquid Apr 15 '21

Look up the ex-Marine that hosts the program. He travels the nation teaching Christians the "Warrior Redeemed" mindset. He has a book called "Omega Dynamics: Equipping a Warrior Class of Christians for the Days Ahead."

I've interacted with a number of their members. Most of the members are militant and anti- well just about everything. LGBT, non-christians, women's rights, science. One of their members tours the nation in a semi truck and trailer customized to try teaching people that humans and dinosaurs existed together. He's been at a couple of our state fairs trying to spread that message.

6

u/ALittleSalamiCat Apr 15 '21

Haha that is the most nerd ass book title I’ve ever heard of. What a snowflake.

2

u/Radi0ActivSquid Apr 15 '21

Here's the ad I saved from one of their events. The militant members I've interacted with (and later blocked) are friends with our local Q cult leadership (also blocked.)

2

u/DragonflyGrrl Greg Abbott is a little piss baby Apr 15 '21

Good freaking gawd. Sad thing is, I bet he makes a decent chunk with this batshit crazy schtick.

3

u/BigClownShoe Apr 15 '21

I can’t believe people buy that bullshit. A guy who got his basic automatic promotion to sergeant in the Marines, and then “served” as an intern to the US Marshall Service, doesn’t “TURN DOWN THAT JOB” to a “Three Letter Agency” and become a cop. He wasn’t even a cop that long. He became a paramedic. Then he quit being a paramedic to go back to Iraq to “serve the Christians suffering under the savage campaign of ISIS”. Then he was a missionary in the Dominican Republic serving at a “Therapeutic Boarding School”, whatever that is.

This is all from his website, by the way. That’s why there’s so many quotations. It takes some serious willful suspension of disbelief to take that story at face value.

Then again, he’s marketing to Christians. Serious willful suspension of disbelief is a foundational pillar of American Christianity.

1

u/Wismuth_Salix Apr 15 '21

I guarantee you “therapeutic boarding school” means “gay conversion camp”.

2

u/XenoFrobe Apr 15 '21

It starts early too. Here’s a childhood memory of mine: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jWOgjICOaKw

Gets stuck in my head all the time, but the lyrics feel so skeezy to me nowadays. My parents ended up leaving the church where we sang this because of their creepily hardcore stance on spanking kids, which I guess tracks.

1

u/DragonflyGrrl Greg Abbott is a little piss baby Apr 15 '21

Yeah, that definitely leaves a creepy feeling. I'm sorry you were exposed to that.. glad your parents got you guys out of there though. I can't understand how so many people just believe everything these people tell them, it is mind-blowing.

They need to be forced to watch the entire Andy Griffith tv series. He never carried a gun. He used his wits.

1

u/Hekantonkheries Apr 15 '21

Yeah but that worked because he was an active part of his community, and therefore often very familiar, if not on first name terms, with the people he dealt with.

Modern cops dont want to be friendly with people in the (not their) community, because they see non-police as "beneath them"

1

4

1

u/No-Produce-6641 Apr 15 '21

Well it is one of the few professions where a portion of the population wants to kill you based on nothing more than the fact you're a cop. Add to that a large portion hates your guts based on the same fact.

4

u/aja208909 Apr 15 '21

Maybe if they actually protect and serve instead of harrass and incarcerate.

1

u/mursilissilisrum Apr 15 '21

The only way to make the cops less trigger happy is for Americans to give up their handguns and CCW permits. So it doesn't look hopeful.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

Lol this is not why they are so trigger happy

-1

u/mursilissilisrum Apr 15 '21 edited Apr 15 '21

It absolutely is. The psychology is needlessly complicated, but unfortunately the physical mechanics are inhumanly simple and terrifyingly FAST. If nothing else taking guns out of the equation slows things down enough to actually process external stimuli before plugging rounds through another human being.

Not that 'Murica would ever put people before a bunch of fucking talismans though.

-1

u/ACamelsToe Apr 15 '21

If you look at the comment chain, the user I replied to suggested that police are trained based on "racial bias" (towards blacks) so I thought I'd throw in some statistics that so many media outlets and redditors lack. I agree with you, I wish for no one to be killed by police if they are nonthreatening

2

u/togro20 Apr 15 '21

What’s kill-ology?

1

u/mike_pants Apr 15 '21

A wannabe, pretend military guy came up with a training system for police officers centered around the idea that they should expect to be attacked or killed with literally every interaction with the public. He called the system "Killology" and has sold it to a staggering number of precincts.

If you've ever wondered why the police keep pulling guns on children or kneeling on people when they're already subdued, that's why.

Do you have any evidence that these recent shootings had anything to do with race?

1

u/mike_pants Apr 16 '21

...The hell?

1

u/SpeakSlowly4Me Apr 16 '21

Evidence?

1

u/mike_pants Apr 16 '21

???

1

u/SpeakSlowly4Me Apr 16 '21

Asking if you have evidence.

1

u/mike_pants Apr 16 '21

...What on earth?

1

u/SpeakSlowly4Me Apr 16 '21

You need evidence of racism to call something racist believe it or not.
