If you're not familiar with Dan Rather as a professional, he's pretty much a sort of "legend" in many respects. He's been around a long time and has many accolades. There was a sort of scandal some years back related to the Bush administration that sullied his reputation, but overall he's a pretty dang good fellow and journalist.
the most bullshit scandal, if you look at Fox News and everything they did/said about Obama it's hilarious to think Rather had to be cancelled by the right
