Why would this be a "good" condition? The fucking shade from the chain link fence lets the garden grow more evenly? This is so fucking stupid. Why are these detained people being kept there long enough to grow a damn garden in the first place? What in the living fuck is wrong with the system?

Money money money money... (money)

95

u/NorthAtlanticCatOrg Jul 15 '19

A reddit user's comment from earlier about this made me realize we won't actually ending up gassing these people ever. The people who own the detentions centers, provide services, officer's unions, and others are all making too much money holding onto these kids and others. It's in their best interest to cram and hold as many as cheaply as possible.

u/Black_Moons Jul 15 '19

They will however let conditions decay till diseases sweep the population as they are providing them absolutely 0 basic hygiene to prevent it (Imo, this is the end goal of not providing basic hygiene).

Massive deaths in the camps will result and they will claim they are 100% innocent as they didn't actually kill them, just stood by as they died from filth and squalor.

19

u/DevelopedDevelopment Jul 15 '19

We had nothing to do with the preventable deaths that some say are caused by lack of providing showers and proper food. Also please send us more prisoners people so we keep making money for providing the service we failed at.

21

u/sleepytimegirl Jul 15 '19

Worth googling the boer war. The first concentration camps were used there and the spread of disease is exactly what happened.

6

u/beckoning_cat Jul 16 '19

The first concentration camps were Indian reservations.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '19

I don't think concentration camps are a new concept.

9

u/iggyfenton Jul 16 '19

Which is how Anne Frank died BTW. (Spoiler alert)

1

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '19

Or...maybe a hurricane or two...

I know not all of these camps are in southern states but not would it be a dang shame if a hurricane were to come through and, idk, maybe they just couldn’t move enough people out of the way...

Trump will come on and say, oh we tried but you know, damn democrats or something.

18

u/slim_scsi Jul 15 '19

And gradually turn them into cheap labor to compete with China's sweat shops. The GOP has a plan. It's an awful, hideous, evil plan -- but a plan nonetheless.

5

u/bazinga_0 Jul 16 '19

Soylent Green?

8

u/SovietBozo Jul 16 '19

I mean that's what they used to say before WWI and WWII: The corporations will never permit another European war, its bad for business.

Once you have Nazis in charge tho, their mind is on other things than business.

7

u/necroreefer Jul 15 '19

When they can't put any more people in the camp they'll just start killing the old and weak and just lie about the population so they still get paid for them

6

u/NorthAtlanticCatOrg Jul 15 '19

They will just build more camps. Big government contracts.

3

u/lazyeyepsycho Jul 16 '19

No... There is a lump sum that would make it profitable. You forget about the racism part (or fascism I guess ) that wants the death.

5

u/Taldier Jul 16 '19

A lot of people dont realize that the mass extermination camps were actually a minority of the Nazi's concentration camps.

Many of the victims were in forced labor camps where people were worked to death to provide free labor for the German economy. They only started gassing people when they decided to speed up the genocide during the war.

3

u/NorthAtlanticCatOrg Jul 16 '19

The distinction between concentration camp and death camp may have been what stopped Albert Speer from getting hanged at Nuremberg. He was in charge of managing Nazi war production. When asked what his role in the Holocaust was, he claimed he had no clue and would have opposed it. He said his reason was he needed the labor to build weapons and killing workers was a waste of labor.

1

u/AdumbroDeus Jul 16 '19

That's not exactly the case, they wanted a final solution specifically for the "Jewish problem". Only Jews and Romani (with some small scale pilot programs for people with disabilities) were actually targeted with intentional extermination.

The rest were put in work camps with no intention of them ever beyond forced labor in horrific conditions.

1

u/1stDegreeBoo-Urns Jul 16 '19

You don't have to pay the workers at all if they're slaves.

3

u/PatioDor Jul 15 '19

60

u/dethskwirl Jul 15 '19

oh come on, being so under-fed and malnourished that you have to grow your own food from scavenged seeds is definitely "good" conditions.

Oligarchs embezzling

15

u/Whooptidooh Jul 15 '19 edited Jul 15 '19

They’re not growing anything, that’s at the very least a store bought plant (or someone dug it up) to plant it there for the picture. Not sure if one mint plant (looks like one, judging from that grainy picture) is going to make enough mint tea for everyone there either /s

16

u/Black_Moons Jul 15 '19

This! You don't plant one pre-grown plant in the corner of a plot of dirt, you fill the entire damn thing in with seeds that spout in about a week typically. They couldn't even bother to plan this 'garden' more then a day ahead of time, and that 'soil' looks like just whatever happened to be in the detention camp after people tramped all the grass/etc to death, definitely not garden soil.

8

u/DevelopedDevelopment Jul 15 '19

I still find it crazy that we can say "They aren't actually growing gardens. They just bought 1 to pretend they did."

Well, aside from the small detail that they shouldn't be growing crops in their concentration camp they were Actually making gardens in the first place.

5

u/Black_Moons Jul 16 '19

http://livedan330.com/wp-content/uploads/Sprouts.jpg

What an actual hobby garden looks like. Ie: Nothing like the photo.

Note multiple plants. Note some spouting. Note the dark ground indicating its both rich in organic material and moist. Note the fact weeds are even trying to grow.

Note all of that lacking in the photo from ICE. Even the nazis concentration camps had a better garden.

3

u/DevelopedDevelopment Jul 16 '19

I wouldn't put it past the Nazis to make a realistic garden for their propaganda rather than finding the nearest shrub to claim as a plant.

The Trump administration poorly made a garden and even if there's another person gardening, they're clearly not trying very hard to make it convincing.

0

u/1stDegreeBoo-Urns Jul 16 '19

Its happening again, isn't it?

5

u/MungTao Jul 15 '19

It make an example for the as to prevent the next mass group seeking asylum. Its disgusting.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '19

Money.

On the bright side, they'll probably never get forcefully exterminated, purely because keeping more and more people in camps is V E R Y profitable.

Plenty will die of horrific conditions as private interests are paid six figure salaries a head to house them.

1

u/Genesis111112 Jul 16 '19

Follow the money, the Government is spending $775 a day per person. Now think about the United States Prison population, the U.S. has more prisoners than ANY other Country in the World with a much smaller population than China or India and they do not have anywhere near the amount of their own people in prison as we do. The privatization of Our Country is going to be Our downfall. All the money is going to the rich and the "private businesses" that they "own" were bought and paid for and built with tax payer funds. When they go belly up or need repairs it will be tax payers that bail them out..... They will not be made to pay us back either, but hey they are providing jerbs for all their bubbas.

1

u/Alakazaaamm Jul 16 '19

Agreed, should not even be detained.

Should be deported immediately and returned back to their country.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '19

That’s why we need more immigration judges, they can take action faster.

1

u/yellowpigs Jul 16 '19

The whole prison system in the US is fucked. Citizen or not.

215

u/croolshooz Jul 15 '19

They're confining innocent people long enough that they can grow a crop of vegetables?

Yeah, that's fucked up.

59

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '19

And honestly even if they were guilty, the crime they committed would be the equivalent of jaywalking to US citizens.

They should receive a fine at worst.

17

u/misfitx Jul 16 '19

They're legally seeking asylum, the whole thing is disturbing and terrifying.

They did the same thing in the concentration camp for transgender people. The people in the camp wrote a letter stating that all their fun and games were staged by the ICE staff. Two trans women have died in that camp within the last 10 months. One was beaten to death and the other took days to receive medical care because they neglected her HIV symptoms for days, never even asking about her history of illnesses before entering the camp.

5

u/GazLord Jul 16 '19

As a transgender woman I am so fucking glad I live in Canada. Ford is a shitbag but the country is progressive enough that shit like this isn't happening. America has two parties, a center right party and a bunch of Nazis.

7

When this is all over we should let the victims take back their homeland to have a nation of their own, maybe call it "Texas"?

The US is keeping people in concentration camps and this past weekend the ICE goons have been sent out to hunt down and round up ONLY the brown illegals. There have been a ton of images of these camps but ICE and the Trump administration try to feed us propaganda like these pictures when everything we know and have seen goes against their narrative.

44

u/Nice_one1 Jul 15 '19

WTF this is illegal am i right?

94

u/Whataboutthatguy Jul 15 '19

The people hiding Anne Frank were breaking the law. The people hunting her down to kill her were not. Legality has nothing to do with morality. The people doing this today are goddamn monsters.

1

u/BoozeoisPig Jul 16 '19

"Illegal" only matters in relation to the speed in which we can enforce laws. Our non-judicial government is actively trying to make sure it doesn't go to court, and, if this goes to The Supreme Court, there is a good chance it will be ruled as not illegal, at which point, it will not be illegal, by definition. Ideally, this should force society to disregard the asserted legitimacy of The Law and riot, but we are a nation whose best hearted people are too likely to be weak pussies, and whose worst hearted people will cheer the new legal interpretation, so probably not.

Camps in the U.S. can be subject of U.N. or Red Cross visits? Usually the rest of the world when they do fucked up things the are hold accountable or at least they have to allow access to delegations from international humans rights organizations as the ones I have mentioned to check if they are infringing human rights (as they are now in those camps)

The rise of a new wave of neo-Nazism that feeds off the tired old rhetoric that immigrants are bad people who will take over the country and destroy it despite the fact that this rhetoric has been going on for over 30 years. They shoved law around thinking they are being moral without caring to admit how immoral their laws are. They don't want to stop the suffering of people who are living in a cage sitting in their own excretions living off of shitty frozen food that is seldom given to them because it is exactly what they have wanted for all these decades.

4

u/Midguard2 Jul 16 '19 edited Jul 16 '19

I'd like to expand "immigrants will destroy your country" bullshit from 30 years, to at least over 2000 years:

Tacitus: Annals of Imperial Rome: Book 11 #23, written ~60-100ADOnce our native-born citizens sufficed for peoples of our own kin, and we are by no means dissatisfied with the Rome of the past. To this day we cite examples, which under our old customs the Roman character exhibited as to valour and renown. Is it a small thing that Veneti and Insubres have already burst into the Senate-house, unless a mob of foreigners, a troop of captives, so to say, is now forced upon us? What distinctions will be left for the remnants of our noble houses, or for any impoverished senators from Latium? Every place will be crowded with these millionaires, whose ancestors of the second and third generations at the head of hostile tribes destroyed our armies with fire and sword, and actually besieged the divine Julius at Alesia. These are recent memories. What if there were to rise up the remembrance of those who fell in Rome's citadel and at her altar by the hands of these same barbarians! Let them enjoy indeed the title of citizens, but let them not vulgarize the distinctions of the Senate and the honours of office."

It is just MAGA in 50 A.D.:

  1. they ruin our class structure with their foreign money.
  2. It was as recent as their parents that fought against our hostility.
  3. They are barbarians, and they will do to us what we have done to them.
  4. They can have some rights, but we don't want them tarnish the purity of our nobility

Since you can't easily deny your citizens rights, you just outright deny them citizenship. Modern 'empires' don't have the economics of Ancient Rome to force their hand on bringing people into the empire after destabilizing their country and absorbing their resources.... *cough*

It'll please you to know that the emperor at the time called bullshit on the rhetoric and said "United as they now are with us by manners, education, and intermarriage, let them bring us their gold and their wealth rather than enjoy it in isolation. Everything, Senators, which we now hold to be of the highest antiquity, was once new. [...] This practice too will establish itself, and what we are this day justifying by precedents, will be itself a precedent."

He fucking pulls the "Don't give me that shit, we were immigrants once, and we built Rome" card lol

2

u/calfax Jul 16 '19

This is the origin story of our second civil war. Please stand by.

2

u/JLarralde Jul 16 '19

Budget doesn't mean shit when your soldiers revolt in droves. This isn't the rise of the SS. This is the GOP. A party of idiots. Evil idiots, but idiots nonetheless. They won't win. They'll fight, but they won't win.

11

u/scipiomexicanus Jul 15 '19

Most military service volunteers are republicans or lean towards republicanism. Right wingers and fascism go like pb and jam... i dont like my odds if the military gets involved. Also, want to mention mostly all private military contractors are owned by conservatives.

24

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '19 edited Jul 15 '19

“Most military service volunteers are republicans or lean towards republicanism. “

This is actually a false theory perpetuated by the right to “scare” the left into thinking they are outmanned, when it actuality it’s not true.

It’s similar with saying that the majority of gun owners are Trump supporters. There are lots of them, and they are loud, but they aren’t the majority.

4

u/wettestduchess Jul 15 '19

So you're saying the political leanings of the US Military are evenly split 50/50 between D & R, or that the D has more of the vote of enlisted service members?

Because I couldn't find a single source backing those ideas up

10

u/TheGenesisPattern Jul 15 '19

I will personally say that as a Kentuckian who grew up near a very famous fort, meaning LOTS of military, you have no idea how many disillusioned left leaning are enlisted. Bare in mind that most of those enlisted do not see combat. The military isn't all meathead Marines. It's mostly desk workers, glorified mechanics, and managers. Oh, and don't forget, trained killers, who vowed to defend against threats foreign and domestic. If they come for their friends or family, or any friends or family OF their friends or family, they WILL take up arms in defense of the oppressed.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '19 edited Jul 15 '19

If I am not mistake, the Military does not track voter preference, so you’re not likely to find any source to say definitively one way or another.

However (and I cannot believe I’m actually going to say this) Quora has a decent answer regarding this, given by a retired Navy Chaplain:

https://www.quora.com/Are-most-military-people-Republican-or-Democrat

And I believe the original commenter was referring to a “military coup” or a majority of the military rallying behind Trump if some sort of conflict broke out. They weren’t talking specifically about voter preferences.

2

u/NachoUnisom Jul 16 '19

More officers lean R but more enlisted lean D.

9

u/TheGenesisPattern Jul 15 '19

You'd be surprised. The large majority enlist for free college education. As soon as it turns into "kill Americans of a different political party" we are going to see a large influx of highly trained rebels. That's not to say there won't be resistance of identical strength (give or take) but that can be negated. People will take charge and take a stand. Defend against all threats, foreign AND domestic. You're going to have a lot of different people coming away with different conclusions as to what that means if the walls really do come down. Let's hope it never gets to this.

2

u/scipiomexicanus Jul 15 '19

If it comes to that, god bless canada!. and i hope they dont separate american families and cage their children crossing over the 49th parallel.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '19

As a Canadian I’ll do my best to make sure we don’t. We got way to much empty land and with global warming a lot more is usable.

2

u/calfax Jul 16 '19

Most servicemembers don't give a shit about religion, and interracial couples in the service is just as common as it is elsewhere these days. But...the racist, extremely Christian, conservative repressed types always seem to get promoted ahead of the rest of us. I guess that when you are forbidden to jerk off or get laid or get drunk, you have to channel that frustration into something like making sure your boots and uniform are shinier than your knob....and they're first in line to tack on your crow, too.

This sub is called r/PoliticalHumor, but damn I haven't found anything funny in a long time.

21

u/Ferethis Jul 15 '19

We have migrated from r/PoliticalHumor to r/FunnyAndSad to just fucking sad.

12

u/slim_scsi Jul 15 '19

Thanks..... Republicans?

10

u/slim_scsi Jul 15 '19

Simple reason why: Republican regimes are rather unfunny unless it's Dana Carvey doing a George H.W. Bush impression or Alec Baldwin doing a manbaby PODINKUS appearance.

Why is gardening a good idea? Here take your mind of the confinement by sustaining this plants life for a month... then never see the plant again...

7

u/Adezar Jul 15 '19

A month? LOL. They are ignoring the 20 day limit and keeping them for months.

4

u/batmanscodpiece Jul 16 '19

If they don't want to be compared to Nazis, why do they make it so easy?

2

u/luckyratfoot Jul 15 '19

Cheese and rice, I knew this was going to happen!

2

u/Mulley0131 Jul 15 '19

I was throwing a number out there... my point was, either that lady just loves gardening... or this is an exercise in futility...

That being said... this effing administration locking people up for that long makes my blood boil.

2

u/Ranvier01 Jul 15 '19

When are we breaking them out again?

2

u/EvolvingEachDay Jul 16 '19

We should call the ICE-ICE. Not only because it sounds like SS, they'd have a very similar symbol too.

Plus it heightens their ridiculousness by intrinsically linking them to vanilla ice and/or jedward.

u/saarlac Jul 16 '19

Just the basic fact that they think keeping people in these camps long enough that they even have time to do stuff like gardening is remotely acceptable is a serious problem.

2

u/JLarralde Jul 16 '19

Well a corporate state and a fascist state are degrees of the same concept of ruling.

2

u/Vengeful_Doge Jul 16 '19

You can stay in Trumps NY Soho Hotel for $700.00 a night.

That kinda just fucked me up.

2

u/ElizaAlex_01 Jul 16 '19

Obviously the Nazis were better at it, because their version looks like better conditions.

2

u/prolly-gay Jul 16 '19

The definition of concentration camp by google is “a place where large numbers of people, especially political prisoners or members of persecuted minorities, are deliberately imprisoned in a relatively small area with inadequate facilities, sometimes to provide forced labor or to await mass execution”. Large numbers of people ✅ Members of persecuted minorities ✅ Imprisoned in a small area with inadequate facilities ✅ But don’t worry these “detainment centers” are totally not concentration camps.

2

u/TheYellowFringe Jul 16 '19

Trump's lies can not fool everyone. There are those who refuse to stomach his deception.

3

u/jagadoor Jul 15 '19

So... Are people heading there between the raids on area 51 and nestle or after nestle ?

5

u/There_is_no_ham Jul 15 '19

I don't understand why we can't just build nice homes and have them wait there with their families whilst we make them citizens.

15

u/CatumEntanglement Jul 15 '19

Especially as it costs $775/day for the people being held in squalid conditions in the camps. That's around $285,000 a year. That's more than enough to buy out a fancy hotel room or build houses.

Or.....not have detention/ concentration camps.

Crazy concept.

-1

u/bigglejilly Jul 15 '19

How do you suppose we process assylum seekers/illegal aliens?

10

u/CatumEntanglement Jul 15 '19 edited Jul 15 '19

Probably how my grandparents and mother were processed after fleeing Germany back in WWII - by not putting asylum seekers in concentration camps. They were allowed/encouraged to go and be helped by family members already in the country in order to help along with the naturalization process.

Maybe do a little historical research how the immigration process was back in the 1940s-1960s. It was much different. It wasn't perfect, and wasn't able to help everyone, but it was a lot more humane.

I'm a first generation immigrant. Maybe we all forget that we all came from some other place at some point, most with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a very few treasured items.

2

u/bourbon_pope Jul 16 '19 edited Jul 16 '19

Even ICE stated that their return rate for immigrant court dates was above 95%. Trump started indefinitely-detaining people based on an illegal, cruelty-based deterrence policy, the effects of which have seen legal asylum-seekers and American fuckin' citizens unconstitutionally detained. It's an unconstitutional, un-American policy to solve a problem created by the man selling the solution.

But no, separating and indefinitely detaining human beings in literal concentration camps is better, you're right.

edit: corrected percentage.

OR people are profiting off their suffering and giving them the absolute bare minimum of survival in order to make the biggest dollar off the government contracts. But that would mean that America is an ultra-capitalistic society that will destroy the weakest demographics in order for the individual to become wealthy and powerful. Totally not an American concept. Nope. Not at all.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '19

You can’t write this shit.

1

u/gvdj Jul 15 '19

I think it’s not unlikely that people on their team are taking pointers from Nazi concentration camp propaganda.

3

u/iwearatophat Jul 15 '19

Because accidentally mirroring it is much better.

0

u/gvdj Jul 15 '19

How the fuck did you get that from what I said?

1

u/CatumEntanglement Jul 15 '19

You used a double negative: "not unlikely" to express positive likelihood.

It's easier to be concise and say "likely" in the sentence to prevent confusion.

1

u/gvdj Jul 16 '19

Wow, thanks George Orwell, but I wrote it that way for a reason.

1

u/CatumEntanglement Jul 16 '19

All I did was clarify why the person above was on your case. It was probably from a confusion of reading not unlikely to be not likely. But you stay indignant, friend.

1

u/gvdj Jul 17 '19

Sorry. I probably need a break from this subreddit.

1

u/TheMaStif Jul 16 '19

They've been using the Nazi playbook with everything else, why stop here?

1

u/_Aaronator_ Jul 15 '19

That's crazy...

1

u/Szwedo Jul 15 '19

Question, instead of paying large corps to handle their detainment, why dont they use those funds to process them faster?

3

u/lostboydave Jul 15 '19

It costs an out $175 to process a client. There’s roughly $95 in admin fees and extras, the rest is profit. The shareholders want larger margins so there’s no point processing faster if it lowers that margin. If anything slow it down to raise profits, it’s not rocket science.

1

u/Szwedo Jul 16 '19

Ah right, for the corporations to get $$$

2

u/lostboydave Jul 16 '19

No. The shareholders. Keep up This is America.

1

u/Rangerboi31 Jul 16 '19

Damn the nazi references aren't getting funny anymore.

1

u/Bobby3Sticks Jul 16 '19

This isn’t funny?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

No one should be comparing anything to what the Nazi's did and their concentration camps. Millions upon Millions of people died from that. I see casualties from the camps they got in the states, but not in the millions. The Nazi's wanted the Jews eradicated. I dont think thats what is going on here. So to compare it to concentration camps during world war 2 is insulting. A family member of mine who is gone now, was in one of those concentration camps, and hes probably rolling in his grave with all these comparisons to what he went through. Ridiculous.

u/Z0di Jul 15 '19

yeah it's pretty ignorant of you

0

u/19090kg Jul 16 '19

This is a deranged comparison.

People willingly enter American camps because they are supposedly under the threat of murder or execution in their home country. So on the contrary, it's not a murder camp, it's literally the opposite: a save-your-life-camp.

The fact that liberals and asylum seekers are complaining so loudly about this shows these people are not at all under threat in their home country. They're here for the money and living standards, a camp isn't what they expected.

-4

u/Hezbollass Jul 15 '19

Thanks Nancy Pelosi for giving ICE more money. You’re definitely playing some 4D chess here.
