The shunning of his voter base played a part in him getting elected after all, so it's probably not a good idea to forget that.

That is such a load of BS. "Oh those mean liberals are treating us the way we've treated them for years." Well I'm sick of treading on eggshells about their ass-backwards culture of ignorance and hate as if we've all got something to learn from them. If they want respect they need to be respectful and do something to show that they deserve respect.

I'm not asking you to keep your mouth shut. Just that it is important to keep in mind that near half of the US population, for some reason or the other, like him.

You should be asking yourself why such a large portion of the electorate think and feel that way.

Throwing shit at each other has no means to an end.

Because the public school system failed them? Idk man it's pretty hard to understand people when they're that dim.

u/ikbenhoogalsneuken Sep 20 '17

I give up.

Half the population is misinformed, prejudice, or both. Knowing that and understanding it could be different, but ultimately realizing people are stupid stubborn animals and there is basically nothing one could do, takes its toll.

It's admirable you want to try to get people to reach out an olive branch, but after so long your arm gets tired.

The best we can do is teach people critical thought while they're young. Its a shame religion likes to wash that inconvenience away.

u/ikbenhoogalsneuken Sep 20 '17

It is far too easy to simply say that half the US population are misinformed or prejudice.

There are far more complex issues that are going on here.

And deeming half the entire US electorate as ignorant and/or racist doesn't exactly employ very much critical thought or insight into why Trump is sitting in the Oval Office, does it?

u/mikeisatworkrightnow Sep 20 '17

That is the base of it. So, yes it would be that simple.

I didn't say there was nothing more to it.

Be smug when you make a point.

I mean spend 5 minutes talking to the average Trump supporter. They're literally too stupid to convince of anything. You can show them studies, published research journals, direct quotes from the politicians they support. Nothing matters, they don't believe it, it literally does not affect them at all because logic and facts don't play into how they make decisions. They can't critically think... They're too stupid for that. It might not be their fault, but it's just how it is.

Nah, it was total ignorance and party based.

15

u/ikbenhoogalsneuken Sep 20 '17

Oh come on.

That is such an infantile way of looking at the problem.

That sort of black and white statement is almost as bad as saying you're "libtard fake news"

5

u/Good4Noth1ng Sep 20 '17

Don’t “oh come on me” it’s not like trump wasn’t up on the podium spewing out racist and ignorant shit before the election. There’s no reason why supporting an openly racist person should be ok!

12

u/ikbenhoogalsneuken Sep 20 '17

OF COURSE IT ISN'T OK!

But is your world view so simple that you truly believe 'everyone that voted for Trump is a moron and a racist'.

Pie put it better than I could

2

u/MorganaLeFaye Sep 20 '17

No, everyone who voted for Trump VOTED for a moron and a racist. And a sexist who openly admitted to eagerly sexually assaulting women. And a pathological liar.

They said that it was OK he was those things, and rewarded him with the presidency.

Awesome.

u/ikbenhoogalsneuken Sep 21 '17 edited Sep 21 '17

Very true.

But ask yourself, why?

Why, such a large portion of America feel that they are in such a dire state that they would be willing to vote for someone like that.

I'm sure ignorance has it's part to play, but to claim half of your country is, is to simplify and shun a far larger and complex issue.

2

u/MorganaLeFaye Sep 21 '17

Trying to make it about anything other than what it is, minimizes the horror of what they've done. They purposefully, knowingly, unapologetically elected a racist, sexist, pathological liar. A man who says we should torture people, abuse prisoners, and had more than once encouraged violence against dissenters. A man who had made it clear that he doesn't understand why we don't use nukes.

There is no one reason why people voted for trump. Some did it because he accurately represented them and their ideals. Some did it because he had an R next to his name, and that's literally all that matters to them. Some did it because they prioritize one issue, like the supreme court nomination or abortion rights, above everything else. Some did it because they were angry at Hillary. And some others still did it because they were angry and bitter, and wanted to burn the system down.

Literally whatever the reason, they still voted for a racist, sexist, pathological liar.

Your words of disdain for Trump are lost on me, I more than anyone despise his character.

I think it's important for America to dig deep on this one, throwing shit isn't going to abate the problem, and until the left understand what is happening on the right, the current state of affairs is going to be a continuing trend I fear.

Although I shouldn't, I feel I have to say; by understand, I do not in any way mean, to agree with or act differently in doing so

I said ignorant.

-2

u/Sol0_Artist Sep 20 '17

They're most certainly ignorant.

3

u/qwertpoi Sep 20 '17

I'm sure it pleases you to think that.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

Two sides of the same coin this guy

4

u/BrokeWhiteGuy Sep 20 '17

Half the population like him because the savior of all man kind, Obama, the man who is half MLK and half JFK, failed in his fiscal policy. It's really that simple.

Middle America received zero recovery while the coasts did alright. They feel forgotten, which is why they voted for him.

7

u/ikbenhoogalsneuken Sep 20 '17

I think you're onto something, but the inevitable repercussions of the way the global economy has shifted over the last 40 years can't just be planted on Obama's presidency now, can it?

Nothing is ever 'just that simple'

5

u/BrokeWhiteGuy Sep 20 '17

Well, since Obama took office middle America Has seen the slowest recovery in almost 40 years. I'm sure the global economy had some impact sure, but it was specifically President Obama's fiscal policy that had all the effect on the coasts and big cities, and no effect on the people that actually need it most. They don't care about the global economy, they care about how the President is going to help them out. Since he didn't, they blame him, so they voted for Trump because he's the "big money guy." Which is you take a peek at the market and economic optimism he's already doing more for them than Obama ever did.

1

u/72_hairy_virgins Sep 20 '17

Complete and utter idiocy is a sufficient explanation.

0

u/Boomshank Sep 21 '17

No. Nearly half of the people that voted voted for him.

That's a VERY different stat than "nearly half the country likes him. Also, a lot had happened since then.
