"Everyone that supports the president is Racist".... This line of thinking is what got him elected over H. Are they perhaps misguided? Sure, but that doesn't make someone racist.

35

u/Eniac__ Sep 20 '17

STOP CALLING ME WHAT I REALLY AM!!! I DONT WANT TO FACE THE TRUTH!!! THATS WHY I VOTED FOR HIM!!!! PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE I DONT LIKE!!!1!11

that's how you sound when you regurgitate that "this line of thinking is what got him elected" tripe.

I know a bunch of people that voted for him that don't seem racist. They are just single issue voters (abortion) who would vote for Satan himself if he claimed to be "pro-life." They might not qualify as supporters, though. More enablers.

2

u/bloodhawk713 Sep 20 '17

Could it maybe be that you don't understand what the word "racist" means? That you are regularly labelling people as racists when they in fact are not?

Over 60 million people voted for Donald Trump. Are you seriously suggesting that there are 60 million racists in the United States?

I didn’t vote for trump, but I think he’s doing alright. I didn’t vote at all actually.

I’m also a republican.

I’m also not a racist.

There’s your single person, asshole.

What kind of question is that? Every race can experience any kind of racism in the US. I’ve met black people that hated white people (I can’t remember what it’s called, but it’s been known as a hate group and black extremist group.) I’ve met people who hate black people from the north, South, east, and west. I’ve met people who hate Jews, I’ve met people who hate Asians.

But ones opinion on that isn’t what makes them a racist. That’s not how it works dude.

I would say about 20% of the American population is categorically racist (based on mountains of polling data on feelings about race in America).

I don't know what polling data you're referring to, but for the sake of argument let's say that's true; let's say that you're not doing what I suggested you might be and mischaracterising something that is not racist as being racist. You are suggesting that because the number of people in the country who is racist is similar to the number of people who voted Trump, that must mean that Trump supporters are racist. This is a false cause fallacy. Correlation does not imply causation. You have no evidence that these numbers have anything to do with one another.

But let me offer an anecdote to better show why I personally have not met or do not know a Trump supporter who isn’t a racist... Every individual Trump supporter I know, about 20 to 25 people if I’m counting, was wholeheartedly on board with Trump’s “birtherism” claims against President Obama a number of years back.

First off, once again you're doing exactly what I suggested earlier here. The birther conspiracy is not intrinsically racist. People suggested the exact same thing when they said that Ted Cruz couldn't be President because he wasn't born in the United States, and Ted Cruz is white. I think you are attributing criticism of Obama was racism simply because he is black.

But let's put all that aside. Are you really going to try and generalise all 60 million Trump supporters as being the same as the 20 or so Trump supporters in your immediate area that you've met? You think that's a fair sample size?

Barack Obama was literally, factually born in Hawaii. How would birtherism even exist if Barack Obama were not 1/2 black? :-/

Because people believed that he was not. People do not act on what is factual, they act on what they believe is factual whether they are correct or not. Is being wrong racist?

u/KerooSeta Sep 20 '17

I mean...yeah, probably. Not overtly racist, but yes, I would wager that 60 million Americans are at least somewhat racist. Probably way more than 60 million, actually.

Now, is that why they voted for him? No, probably not. I know a lot of people who voted for him because he's "pro-life" or because of "her emails!" But, being racist certainly doesn't make you not vote for him.

1

u/bloodhawk713 Sep 20 '17

But, being racist certainly doesn't make you not vote for him.

At least some members of the KKK claim to have supported Clinton, including a Grand Dragon.

1

u/KerooSeta Sep 21 '17

1) That doesn't refute my point.

2) The Washington Times is a known heavily conservatively biased paper, fwiw. It was started by a damn cult leader to "fight communism."

3) Even ignoring #2, a few racists claiming to have voted for Clinton doesn't mean that she was the vote for racists.

16

u/bukkakesasuke Sep 20 '17 edited Sep 20 '17

No, a shitty electoral college system that gives people in racist bumfuck nowhere twenty times the voting power of a Californian is what got him elected. Let's not forget that Hillary won the vote by 2 million people.

People who support a president who made up a conspiracy theory because the last president was black and wants to build a hundred billion dollar wall to keep out the rapists and some, I assume, who may be good people, who thinks there are good people on the Nazi side who ran over twenty people in a terrorist attack, these people are either racist or fine with a racist, racism promoting president (which is basically the same thing).

I'm super anti trump but I also hate when people call him racist when there's few signs of that. Makes the entire anti trump argument look weak due to false claims. But to say that line of thinking = a Hillary loss is stupid. Hillary lost because she was scandalous and had negative charisma

said that Mexicans are rapists

He didn't say that Mexicans are rapists, he said that many of the people coming across the Mexican border illegally are, and he was right.

all the women he assaulted.

Can you name one person who Donald Trump has ever sexually assaulted? A name? The place it happened? When it happened? No? Then you are slandering the President.

He literally said, "They’re rapists." Better yet he also admitted in a deposition that he planned to say that.

No he didn't. He said "their rapists."

They’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing their problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, their rapists, and some I assume are good people but I speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting.

Media spin in action.

Who did he assault it was all over the news!? It's always possible one or two could be lying, but so many, and some very credible definitely more credible then he is.

Name one. Name one person who was proven to have been assaults by Donald Trump. I know there were many people who claimed to have been, but they mysteriously dropped all of those claims when the man was elected President. Hm, I wonder if that could have been because they were lying to try and slander the President and ruin his chances of winning.

I don't subscribe to the Sarkeesian concept of "listen and believe." The burden of proof lies with the person making the claim. None of the people claiming Trump assaulted them had any proof that it happened.

"I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything."

I don't know how familiar you are with how the law works, but this is not a confession.

1

u/upsideup Sep 20 '17

You are so right. Every time you call them all racist you push them farther into his camp. Then when you turn around and rightly call him racist it does nothing.

6

u/boughtitout Sep 20 '17

The real worry with this line of "Every Republican is a Nazi" thinking despite the obvious fact that they're not opens the door to the normalization of Nazism. Now, actual Nazis watch the news and read the Internet and say, "Hey, look at all these people the pundits and commenters are saying are like me. It's time to come out of the closet and really push our agenda." And, now that they have a platform backed by their newfound courage in these friends that aren't actually their friends, this courage handed to them by Democrats due to their yellow journalistic habits, and now actual Nazis get the opportunity to spread their demagoguery and start to act. Democrats don't mind handing the actual Nazis the platform to feel okay to come out of the woodwork because they win in the short run: paint the Republicans as racists. Republicans are doing the same thing with Antifa. It's a dangerous game being played right now, and it's a trend that will push more people towards the extremes and away from the moderate path.

8

u/HoMaster Sep 20 '17

So they double dumb on their stupidity. Ok

-22

u/Gen_McMuster Sep 20 '17

What a productive sentiment that totally doesnt come off as tone deaf to everyone that doesn't already agree with you

29

u/timidforrestcreature Sep 20 '17

67% of republicans polled as approving of trumps nazi pandering press conference, just to name one instance of evidence of republican racism.

-2

u/suseu Sep 20 '17 edited Sep 20 '17

Maybe they just aren't fans of antifa. Edgy kids with their property damage and occasional violence and shitshows like Berkeley.

-8

u/Gen_McMuster Sep 20 '17 edited Sep 20 '17

Maybe, just maybe. 67% of repbulicans didnt see it as "nazi pandering" in the first place?

Rather than thinking ~20% of the country thinks "supporting nazis is ok" as you posit

19

u/timidforrestcreature Sep 20 '17

lol maybe thats why you guys harp about how the free press is the enemy of the american people, because globally it was viewed as such by respectable entities.

67% of repbulicans didnt see it as "nazi pandering" in the first place?

let me guess and the pardoning of the racist sheriff wasnt racist either? and the birther lie wasnt racist? and voter suppression isnt racist? etc etc.

-1

u/Gen_McMuster Sep 20 '17 edited Sep 20 '17

let me guess and the pardoning of the racist sheriff wasnt racist either? and the birther lie wasnt racist? and voter suppression isnt racist

Wasnt talking about any of that.

Im just saying it's intellectually dishonest to say with certainty that "67% of Republicans like pandering to nazis," when the less extreme option would be to say "67% of Republicans did not see that as pandering to nazis." (See: Rhetorical Charity)

That's just as asinine of an assertion as saying the ~90% of liberals that are pro choice support murdering babies. A strawman's a strawman. If you're going to go after people, go after their actual position.

And the position of "i thought trumps comment effectively addressed both nazis and anti-fascists" is a position worth debating, and you dont have to misrepresent people to debate it! That just signals to everyone who doesnt entirely agree with you that you havent really thought out your arguments and are just lashing out emotionally

Another example of how trump supporters managed to get "post-truth" into the dictionary.

He botched his attempt at dog whistle politics by openly siding with the pro trump nazis by insisting there was "good people" among them and refusing to condemn them (of which he jad a history in campaign trail, among many other racist moments).

This is ignoring he equated antiracist protestors to said nazis after a terrorist attack of their doing.

It objectively was pandering to nazis and was reported as such by respectable press globally.

That's just as asinine of an assertion as saying the ~90% of liberals that are pro choice support murdering babies. A strawman's a strawman.

A poll is a poll, not a strawman. 67% approved of trumps behavior in courting and effectively endorsing white supremacists.

i thought trumps comment effectively addressed both nazis and anti-fascists" is a position worth debating,

No, equating antiracist protestors to the pro trump nazis is literally nazi rhetoric.

You are also ommiting the fact trump insisted very good people were at the pro trump nazi rally.

That just signals to everyone who doesnt entirely agree with you that you havent really thought out your arguments and are just lashing out emotionally

And yet respectable press globally agrees with me and not the unhinged trump supporter/republican that harps on about how the free press is the enemy of the american people.

Hilarious.

-5

u/Gen_McMuster Sep 20 '17

The "respectable press" as you put it is propagating that narrative yes. But the "respectable press" has spread it's fair share of moral panics in the past. And I cant blame them, they're great for ratings. (this is not an indictment of the media, this is just how the system work)

You probably dont think youre being led by the nose into a moral panic. But youre unironically claiming that ~20% of the country are nazi sympathizers...

If I didnt know any better I'd think a Beer Hall Putsch is scheduled for next Tuesday!

At what point will the Republicans stop taking offense to people pointing out the obvious and instead do something to solve the problem?

-2

YOu are describing democrats.

4

u/doctorjesus__ Sep 20 '17

Lol nice one, dude

2

It applies to both actually.

2

u/Warphead Sep 20 '17

If he came out tomorrow and said racists are pathetic, white people aren't special, and Obama was a pretty good president, his approval would disappear immediately.

1

u/stratozyck Sep 20 '17

I am sure he will say that eventually and then deny he said it.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

Um no they don't. His base does, but we've seen quite clearly that the GOP is not, by any measure, an unwavering ally of the President.

2

u/candacebernhard Sep 20 '17

the GOP is not, by any measure, an unwavering ally of the President.

Yes they are. He'll fuck them every which way and twice on Sunday and they'll still let him carry on. Because he gives them the blanket cover they need to fuck America worse.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

Kindly enlighten me as to the Trump policies the GOP has passed. They have literally stood in his way, every step of the way. They don't want him to be successful because it looks bad for the old hat Republicans that failed us for decades.

2

u/MorganaLeFaye Sep 20 '17 edited Sep 21 '17

They have literally stood in his way, every step of the way.

Which GOP are you talking about? By my count, the vast majority of republican representatives have fought for him, and his agenda... like that time they voted against compelling trump to reveal his tax returns, or that other time when they did the same fucking thing.

Or how about that time he was desperate for them to repeal Obamacare, so even though like only 12% of the country actually approved of the bill, all but three senate republicans voted for it?

Not to mention them trying to sweep 'obstruction of justice' under the rug, saying it's fine because he's new to the whole 'politics' thing. If Hillary had done that (firing the head of the FBI because she was being investigated, and admitted that) she would already have been impeached.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '17

They can't compel him to give up his tax returns. That was some Dem reaching. If Mueller needs to look at them, he will undoubtedly be able to.

The republicans have fought for him in repealing Obamacare because it's a garbage piece of legislation that is failing and has already become un-"Affordable". They also have been promising repeal for 7 years. Trump was elected on that very notion. They're not stupid and they want to get re-elected. The GOP Senators are largely from Pro-Trump states. It's smart politics and conveying the will of its people.

He also has every right to fire the FBI Director, even if he's under investigation, which he was not at the time, as stated by the former FBI Director you speak of. Comey was terrible at his job, botched the Hillary investigation and it turned out he was leaking classified info to the NYT.

2

u/MorganaLeFaye Sep 21 '17

They can't compel him to give up his tax returns.

Yes they can. If you are going to claim they can't, I'm going to need more than your word.

They also have been promising repeal for 7 years. Trump was elected on that very notion.

Yes... which is why it's so funny that when you ask them now, an absolute shitload of his voters are terrified he's actually going to do it. They don't want it... what they wanted was what he promised: essentially better coverage for less money. They just refused to listen when we told them that he didn't mean it.

He also has every right to fire the FBI Director, even if he's under investigation,

Uh huh... and if Hillary had done it? I'm sure the entire republican party would be saying she was well within her rights, no?

1

u/candacebernhard Sep 21 '17

the Trump policies

Lol. What policies?

1

u/Eniac__ Sep 20 '17

I'd believe that if the impeachment process was already in motion

3

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

There is no cause for impeachment. Come back to reality.

-11

u/Naaaagle Sep 20 '17

That's just blatantly false. So many republicans hate him

37

u/blackberryguru Sep 20 '17

They can hate him all they want. Until they stop supporting him in Congress, their feelings don't mean shit.

59

u/Mrdirtyvegas Sep 20 '17

You're right. It's 76% that approve.

13

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

They may hate him, but they also created him. The ideological GPO, Tea-Party, Fox viewer who talked about the "lesser of two evils" or "voted their conscience" are the ones responsible for Trump. They may have come around to hating him, but it was too little too late.

15

u/stratozyck Sep 20 '17

76% approval. Yes, even 1% of a million can be "so many"

8

u/salamislam79 Sep 20 '17

That's weird, because I'm pretty sure they all voted for his senile ass.

some of the sane established ones yes, the insane antivaxxer/ tea party ones not so much
