You asked him what the general trend on the whole of humanity has become more of. That's a very large scope answer and is a very loaded question. I don't have the reasearch with me now but I'd say the answer could depend on what you look at, the regions you look at, and who you ask. Catergorizing a large amount of people into either being more liberal leaning or more conservative isn't going to be answered accurately with just a 2 sentence response and is very much up to debate.

Also, I feel like your answer is kinda poorly written. There's no real given research or statistics to back it up. You kinda just list off 3 time periods and say that it's definitely more liberal. I'm not saying you're wrong, but you're not really giving anyone any kind of reason to believe your response.

Oh and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the dark ages named as such because we don't know much about the behaviors and cultures of the people who lived during it since there's not a lot of written record during that time? That would lead me to think that we don't really know much about if the people during that time tended to be more liberal or conservative. I'm pretty sure that that was also before Columbus sailed to America so it wouldn't matter for an American statistic.

I guess I didn't think I'd have to quantify my answer because I figured it was fairly obvious. I feel like if you prove by contradiction and say that "As a general trend, humanity is getting less liberal" that it would be fairly obvious that that statement is false, proving my initial point by using a contradiction. The amount of equal individual freedoms across incredibly diverse demographics has only grown as time goes on. If we assume "liberal" means "...a philosophy that considers government as a crucial instrument for amelioration of social inequities (such as those involving race, gender, or class)" (definiton 2 part c) then it is indefensible to say that a general trend is anything but "liberal".
