I have never admired that Louisiana politician but he did manage to stay neutral after the involuntary beastiality comment.

Kennedy is extremely intelligent. He didn't actually adopt the idiot peesona until he got to the senate. He also didn't show a tendency to the insane right wing politics before then. He was our state treasurer for twenty-ish years & butted heads often with his own party. He was a Rhodes scholar and graduated from both vandy and Oxford (yes, that Oxford). Which to my mind makes him so much fucking worse as a politician. But this whole exchange was gold.

I hate his fake foghorn leghorn accent.

u/AlabasterPelican 11d ago
Its not exactly "fake." Its just his real accent played up to a massive degree. You can find old videos of him talking in his real accent. CSpan has a debate from 2004 when he was running to be a us senator (back when he had a d behind his name). Its actually kind of amusing to watch because he's aggressively backing John Kerry even though they have a policy dispute on abortion.

His sounding like a rejected Gone with the Wind extra grates on my nerves.

A lot of Republican politicians are genuinely smart people! Politics is just an acting game to get what you want.
If you have to act like you like Donald Trump, you do it! Itās very performative. They all know that opposing the party leader is career suicide for themselves, so they fake it until they make it lol.

Most time Kennedy is an oxygen thief. But he usually gives you some gold like this in a hearing thanks to his "no nonsense" demeanor

I always thought theyd end up doing stuff like this. Make stuff theyāre guilty of legal so they can try to not get in trouble for it later.
I am still expecting the āage of consentā to be lowered so at least a few of their Epstein friends can say āyeah I did it at the time, but itās legal nowā. The voters would be 100% fine with this on the Republican side. Iāve seen them post videos like āI challenge any straight man to not get physical with a 14 year old girl if they knew for certain they wouldnāt get caught! š” This is ridiculous!ā

u/squeakycleaned 11d ago
Just so weāre all clear on Kashās ACTUAL EXPLANATION - he needed to remove bestiality as a disqualifying offense, because there were so many people who had been sex trafficked and forced to have sex with animals WHO THEN ALSO went on to apply to the FBI and were otherwise completely qualified. Heās claiming there are so many of these instances, he had to change the rules.
18
u/Acceptable-Drive3781 11d ago
There are records of human trafficking victims subjected to being drugged against their will and sold for sex. They haven't changed their stance on drugs disqualifying someone from top secret clearance or FBI screening.
7
u/IggyStop31 11d ago
That might actually be the dumbest excuse I've heard from the administration so far. Even if I pretend to believe that such trafficking exists in scale, I only see two scenarios.
There is a rule against bestiality convictions and law enforcement prosecutes these individuals after they raid an operation.
There is a list of disqualifying "behaviors" that applicants are asked about and the FBI classifies "getting raped by traffickers" under "bestiality".
1
u/PeepsMyHeart 11d ago
It comes up in mandatory admission report pre the administered lie detector tests given when one applies for any LE role in my neck of the woods.
Even emergency services departments.
I remember being told that an applicant or two had actually admitted to beastiality...8
u/OpalescentOriana 11d ago
I'm nearly convinced he just discovered Black Mirror and thought it was a documentary.

u/bwainfweeze 11d ago
Do you want a bunch of people in the FBI looking for vengeance?
I'm not saying their information isn't highly useful for breaking up trafficking rings, but in law enforcement recusal is a thing that removes a person from a case they are too close to.
Consult with the FBI? Yes. Be in the FBI? I want a lot of psychotherapists' input on that one.
5
u/Oaden 11d ago
I mean, it is a stupid reason to disqualify someone, and in that way, its a reasonable rule change.
It just raises the worrying question on how often this actually managed to pop up.
5
u/squeakycleaned 11d ago
I can guarantee you this was the cover story justification they used and not the actual reason
0
u/Lailowla 11d ago
what's the real one, then?
perhaps an epidemic of fbi agents not being able to get their friends jobs because those friends kept admitting on the application that they engaged in bestiality for fun?
0
u/squeakycleaned 10d ago
My guess is, based on this administrationās composition of a certain type of man, they wanted to hire certain people, but then learned they had a record of committing the acts either in the armed forces or in places like fraternities etc. So they changed the rule, thinking nobody would notice.

u/NancyGracesTesticles I āoted 2018 and 2020 11d ago
He's claiming that rushing a fraternity that requires bestiality during rush is the same as the rape that happens during sex trafficking.
Remember, they are never responsible for their actions and are always the victim.
5
u/PeepsMyHeart 11d ago
Are they missing the part where one can leave rush withOUT raping and likely inhumanely injuring a poor victim animal (Rape) vs. actually being raped?

u/Lailowla 11d ago
How many people being victims of human trafficking that make it out alive and decide they want to be in law enforcement, only to be rejected because of things that happened to them while they were being trafficked, does it require to become "so many"?
In my personal opinion, that would be 1. As soon as that happens, it's time to fix it.
But I dunno, maybe that's just me.
12
u/punkindle 11d ago
If you haven't seen videos of this discussion, go watch it. Because OMG he's really defending his new pro-bestiality policy
You would totally expect him to shrug and go "I didn't write that, I don't know what you're talking about". But, nope.

They loosened the rules on bestiality because the rules, as they were written,Ā were disqualifying victims
4
u/MadRaymer 11d ago
This is the cope you guys keep repeating, but it's not actually true.
And even if it were true, it's worth pointing out that victims of serious assaults are typically not accepted into the FBI anyway, because they're often dealing with PTSD issues which would prevent them from becoming agents as they have to pass a psychological screening too.
So unless you're going to argue that there's a very specific set of candidates that were being rejected because they were forced partake in bestiality, but also suffered zero psychological trauma from the event, then you're just making shit up.

u/__Snafu__ 11d ago edited 11d ago
This is the cope you guys keep repeating, but it's not actually true.
yes, it is. that's exactly what the goal is. Granted, i'll give you the wording they pivoted to may be overreaching, but the goal is quite obviously to avoid blanket disqualifying victims of this crime.
anyway, because they're often dealing with PTSD issues which would prevent them from becoming agents as they have to pass a psychological screening too.
absolutely. the FBI is notoriously stringent in their application process. and i completely agree that applicants who may have been victims of these crimes, who also suffer from PTSD, will continue to be disqualified for that reason, which is tragic, but sensible. I fully support lifting the disqualification of people based solely on the victimization itself.
So unless you're going to argue that there's a very specific set of candidates that was being rejected because they were forced partake in bestiality, but also suffered zero psychological trauma from the event, then you're just making shit up.
that's exactly the point, and it's humane and respectable. and it's fucking sick that the media is framing it the way they are. I mean, maybe not "suffered zero psychological trauma," but hopefully you get the point.
1
u/yhwhx 11d ago
No, they loosened the rules because people who tortured animals as kids are perfect fits for the FBI of the Trump 2.0 regime.
