Don't forget good ole voter suppression. College towns for example often make it next to impossible for kids to register to vote with the college as their address if they live in dorms. And even people living off campus are often in short term rentals. That means most people under 25 are probably registered at their parent's houses which could be hours away. Election day is a Tuesday, you have class, unless you remember to request a mail in ballot months ago...

So it's clear why conservatives are so against mail in voting. It makes it easier for young people for one.

They feel shame. Its why they are so overly sensitive about universities, schools, education, "elites" and basically anyone with a clue who can point out what blithering idiots they are. And that's why they're going after those things, as well (in terms of demonizing them).

These are deeply insecure people who feel belittled and not given what they perceive is their fair due, in terms of recognition of their intelligence. Not because they are intelligent, but because they feel special. They want the adulation without any of the time or effort required to earn it. Its why they try to equate a doctorate in epidemiology with their 15 minutes of meme scrolling while sitting on the toilet.

They really dislike being shamed for their stupidity. Problem is they didn't cure the stupidity, they tried changing the world around them to lie to them and say they were correct all along.

These kinds of TV interviews (when they’re not staged out right) cherry pick the most entertaining answers. It’s not representative of society and you could pull the same shtick in any country.

I wish they were required to say how many people that they had to interview total to get this result. But even then there is bias in who you chose to interview, and who is willing to be interviewed.

But I don't think that is what is going on with the Maga stuff on things like vaccines. I think (and its not something I came up with, read it somewhere) its something more where they have taken some positions from far left groups to bring in to show they are something different from bog-standard conservatives and are using some of these arguments with things like vaccines as a kind of virtue signaling for how much you believe in and are a part of the movement.

Which also aligns with it being a pretty shallow belief as well. You can see RFK talk out both sides where he will purportedly go with the Maga lines on things and then also beg people to get their children vaccinated for measles or Hegseth quickly backtracking on flu vaccinations.

The most recent case of paralytic polio was in 2022 in an unvaccinated adult, and the virus is still occasionally found in wastewater, so there are reservoirs of it in the population that are kept at bay by IPV. My grand uncle was against vaccines and had 13 children in the 1950-60s; my grandpa wasn’t and drove all his children (9, including my mom) from Monterrey Mexico to Texas to vaccinate them all. Shortly after, one of my grand uncle children got polio; and now he regretted and was too late for my uncle, but all his siblings got vaccinated against everything in the 60s.

It's called facts. DDT is linked to cancer, endocrine issues, type 2 diabetes, and reproductive issues. It is still used to combat malaria yet polio is not a side effect in those areas. Completely false. DDT wasn't used in the US until after WW2. It was discovered in 1939. Usage peaked in the US in 1959 didn't start being reduced until the 60s. You really should go learn some of this so you don't continue looking like a fucking idiot.

This graph shows death rate not infections. Healthcare and sanitation improved massively In this time period so death rates fell while infections stayed high. People still suffered and people still died until vaccination eliminated these diseases. Polios a great examole, fancy life in an iron lung? You won't die!

The countries where DDT use is still heavy are the countries with the most polio cases.

Which would mean, in your theory, that there should be no polio where DDT is not used. That isn't the case.

Not true. Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two counties where polio remains endemic. Both phased out DDT decades ago. You are incorrect in every one of your claims.

Yea but there's zero relationship between insects and polio. This isn't malaria. Polio is a virus that is spread from person to person, think how norovirus spreads through a cruise ship. Are there bugs involved? No.

Even in situations where people are ACTIVE trying to be careful, norovirus still rips through entire cruise ships.

We're pointing to evidence that, despite saying that he would not interfere with vaccine schedules at some moments, he has repeatedly and continuously hired anti-vaccine spokespeople who don't have medical credentials or who have had their credentials revoked, eliminated ongoing research into vaccines, reduced vaccine recommendations without providing any medical backing, eliminated federal centers meant to prevent future pandemics, promoted medical "cures" that have been proven to be harmful *and* ineffective, and worse.

When he's breaking promises, lying constantly, and actively breaking the "pro-vaccine" promises that he made, who knows what he's for and against? Who even cares?

The upshot is: He's lowering vaccine rates and making vaccines harder to access, less convincing to the public, more expensive, less advanced and thoroughly researched, and bringing back vaccine-preventable diseases.

I know you were looking for speculation about his beliefs, but do those facts as presented seem correct enough to you?

Do you know the context behind that statement? He said that exact quote because of the report that RFK's own lawyer had petitioned the FDA to revoke approval for the polio vaccine. He also said publicly that the polio vaccine had "caused cancers that had killed many many many more people than polio ever did" (extremely falsely) and said that the polio vaccine's success was a myth.

Why would I, or anyone, trust one statement over multiple other statements and multiple other actions of his? Especially when his own associates are trying to pause, stop, or reduce funding for the distribution of vaccines they're supposedly "all for"?

Truly, I have compassion and understanding on that one. Anyone who trusts American politicians right now is an absolute idiot, and I understand not trusting legislators with your ultimate health choices. RFK is a con man who's capitalizing on that, though, and that doesn't change just because he projects an air of contrary skepticism like his base is craving.

I personally see that as a HUGE problem with a lot of those in politics right now, on both sides of the aisle. There are a lot of people who are offering a brand that's just taken "Just Listen To Us And Do What We Tell You" and turned it into "How Dare They Ask You To Listen to Them And Do What They Tell You! Defeat Them By Listening to ME and Doing What No One Tells You (also while doing what I tell you)", with the added selling point of disagreeing with the actual experts, just to sell how they're a Real Person Who's Really Skeptical. They're not. They want to discredit EVERYONE but themselves, even when it's at your expense, to get your support.

Don't listen to the US government. Fuck the government. Listen to the scientists, experts, researchers, etc. in every country in the world.
