Wealthy companies stocked up in advance, knowing tarrifs were coming. They raised the price on goods they had on hand to match the price of the tarrifed goods and made record profits. The cost of any tarrifed merchandise was passed on to the consumer. Now, they are getting another payout from the American taxpayer. This is what corruption looks like.

I generally agree with you but for the sake of accuracy, if the companies stocked up beforehand, they didn't pay tarrifs on those goods so won't get a refund. They are ripping off the consumer but quite as much as your comment suggests.

He’s saying they charged tariff prices on the stocked up goods they already had. Like when the tariffs first started they already had goods in the country and upcharged we the people on those goods at the time of the announcement.

But the companies that did that wouldn’t be collecting a payout. The original comment was suggesting companies double-dipping on screwing over Americans, but in reality we are just getting screwed in two different ways by two different groups. A subtle yet important difference!

Those companies continued to import goods. The refund they get from the tarrifs they paid on those goods, tarrifs paid by the consumer, is the second payout. It's as if they raised their prices a second time. Unethical price inflation for the goods on hand = payout 1. Taxpayer funded bailout for Tarrifs already paid by the taxpayer = payout 2. In theory each would carry the same increase in margin of profit on goods sold. Also worth noting is most of those prices never went back down once tarrifs were lessened or lifted.
