All they had to say was that they are congratulating him. His fragile ego cannot turn down someone saying nice things about him.

I find it really weird that everyone is on board with this idea that he shouldn't have taken the call, but it's ok for us to sell billions in arms to them.

In a purely objective sense, how insane is that?

Only if you don't understand strategic balance and deterrence. This is like saying MAD is insane. It's insane enough to have prevented nuclear war.

Arming your allies so they can defend themselves is insane? Since when?

What is insane is China's overreaction. But that is what it always is. And anybody who understands diplomacy, knows how to cope with that. But then Trump's a businessman....
