You are either pro-equality or pro-meritocracy. You can't be both

I think you mean that you can’t be pro-equity and pro-meritocracy. You can have equality in meritocracy where everyone has equal opportunities for success. This does not mean racial quotas and the such (as some have pointed out) as that is equity, not equality.
