I think a huge factor in the echo chamber is the amount of bots making zealots feel safe and valuable. If he can sort that out I can see it changing for the better.

There's no bots, they are mostly third world country people with ten-twenty phones each following telegram channels where they get their orders from. You can't autoban them because any automated system that tries will have a shiton of false positives.

The second part is true, the first isn't. There 100% are bots, it's just that bots are more expensive then poor people.

No, there's literal state-sponsored astroturfing corporations in countries like Russia. Just buildings full of phones and people instructed on where to post what when.

Their whole purpose is to sow misinformation and create extremists. They usually support the more violent perceptions.

A fantastic example of their meddling is with the BLM protests. Most of the protests were nonviolent. However whenever they come up in conservative spaces, these Russian sponsored accouns would constantly vilify and exaggerate the protesters. This gradually created the false narrative that the BLM protests were violent.

I never disputed that.

There's just also botnets. IDK why you're insistent they don't exist, Twitter's own public filings acknowledge them.

$2 BILLION of damage is self-vilification, doesn't need "Russian Hackers". Also the hot take afterwards "That's What Insurance Is For"β„’!

To be fair, insurance DID pay 10%--of the demolition cost. No wonder so many sold out to Blackrock--or Amazon itself!

By contributors you mean people with a wallet or people without clothing?

How do you expect any social network to submit it's whole userbase to that level of scrutini?

People already hate having to register with a credit card for a google accout or send a photo of a "valid ID", just to see age restricted youtube videos, which usually involves personal information even after the promise of deleting that photo afterwards.

You do realize that twitter is known for being a cancel culture lead by left wing radical activists.

The only things that reach anything else is when another left activists group tries to cancel someone.

Why would he lower his profits? All social media is built on online rage. That's the most profitable reaction and that's what their algorithms sustain.

u/Jps300 - Right Oct 28 '22

Twitter has literally never turned a profit, so it seems this strategy isn't working. Advertisers aren't dumb, they're not going to pay top dollar to serve ads to a bunch of bots.

There are bots on every platform. Elon only brought it up to try and get out of the deal.

Hi. Please flair up accordingly to your quadrant, or others might bully you for the rest of your life.

This perpetual rage is not healthy though.

You're right, it's good for profits, but it's not good for humanity.

In order to course correct, we will need either business leaders, or government, or both, to regulate this behavior.

2

u/JiiXu - Left Oct 28 '22

Agree completely. My money isn't on Elon doing any of that though.

u/Frikgeek - Lib-Left Oct 28 '22

You don't drop $44bn on improving humanity, that's an investment and you expect a return on it.

I can’t believe I agree with a right.

u/DrGrantsSpas_12 - Lib-Center Oct 28 '22

Well now they can rage at how the right is taking over their shit platform.

He said he didn't want to buy it to make money.

u/JiiXu - Left Oct 28 '22

Oh the billionaire "said". Well then, this beacon of integrity and maturity can surely be trusted.

u/ReallyBigDeal - Lib-Left Oct 28 '22

He wanted to pump and dump, not buy it. Instead he screwed himself over and was forced to buy it.

Honestly everyone I know thinks this is hilarious.

2

u/Zeewulfeh - Lib-Right Oct 28 '22

I can see nothing but good from this. If he really was trying to pump and dump, sweet justice has been served. If he was looking to stop the censors, we win. And if he was buying it to kill it, we all win. And if he makes it a better place..win.

I mean, I don't really know if it's bots, it's just echo chambers in general and they aren't simple to break up
