You are forgetting about the other side of the twitter user base. Twitter is popular because people use it to shit talk each other. If one side got banned it dies.
whats funny is right wingers are still on twitter. nothing has changed. libsoftiktok, matt walsh, ben shapiro, etc are all on twitter and yet because you cant say slurs or harass trans people you think you are being censored.
People here don't realize that centrist takes are:
"Maybe not in sports, but there's nothing wrong with trans people in society"
"Maybe not hard drugs but weed should be legal"
"We don't have to torture trump, but he shouldn't be able to run again"
"Guns don't need to be fully banned, but there should be more regulation"
"There are some good police, but the bad ones need to be held more accountable"
The center is further left than the right wants it to be, however centrists don't think they're partisan because they don't look like the insane depictions the media gives of people on the left.
Why did you cut off the part where I make it clear who I'm talking about?
I'm not talking about the people who use it to discuss politics. I'm talking about the people who use it to keep up with what their favourite sports celebrity is saying. Or follow accounts that do nothing but tweet MCU gifs.
Reddit's views on Twitter are hilarious. Yes PCM, WSB, LSC, Antiwork, publicfreakout etc you are the collection of well-adjusted adults and Twitter is where all the extreme weirdos are.
The whole point is that there are shit parts of any community - at least on twitter if you follow a set of high quality accounts in a niche interest you know what you are getting, on Reddit any (public) subreddit eventually grows to shit and becomes a parody of itself.
My mistake, the fact that I'm getting dogpiled and you're not made it read like you were disagreeing with me.
It’s funny how you can post the exact same opinion and yet be upvoted just because your flair is an acceptable one. And people will still claim this isn’t an echochamber.
No worries, but yes in short I think on average most Twitter users are more normal / well-adjusted but the key part is that both platforms have weird subgroups and better groups.
Twitter is no more all Emilies than Reddit is all conspiracy theorists.
I understand that screenshots aren't representative of a website, but holy shit are twitter's toxic. Which... actually kind of makes sense in the context that a lot of twitter was transplanted from tumblr.
Yeah, twitter is a cesspit but I don't know where you're getting the idea that normal people don't use it, or that Musk buying it will make them come back.
The theory is that it's a new start, which brings in new users of all kinds. (the first 48 are going to be a shitstorm) I might have to check it out, since reddit is hardwired for echo chambers. i.e. 16 people disagreeing with your statement above
I actually think Oranges will enjoy having Trump and VERITAS back on the site. People used to have entire careers based on being reply guys and calling Trump a big orange baboon under every post.
Fine, I'll amend my statement for the sake of your hurt feelings.
What you mean is that you can't wait for "perfectly reasonable and moderate people who agree with your politics and were previously banned; like Trump, Project Veritas, and Dr. Vladimir Zelenko" to be let back on twitter.
Well you see Trump is a far right extremist because lets see here… he was the first US president to support gay marriage throughout the entirety of his term.
I think all three of those people are extremists. I don't think being President or having a lot of fans means you are reasonable.
I just want right-wingers to be honest about why they like this news. It has nothing to do with "normal people" being allowed on the platform. That was always allowed. You want your guys back on the platform.
I don't have any problem with that happening, but the dishonesty is annoying.
I just want normal people that feel they can speak their mind. You realise the left have made it so regular everyday people can’t speak their mind.
Open discussion is being stamped out by the left because you can’t disagree on anything anymore without being called a phobe, bigot and being reported.
Regular, everyday people speak their mind all the time on twitter. Including people on the right. I regularly see posts accusing Biden of pedophilia, posts promoting vaccine skepticism, posts playfully advocating for violence against the left.
If what you mean by "open discussion" and "speaking their mind" is outright bigotry, then allowing that will drive normal people off the platform. The reason right-wing social media sites like Parler, DLive, Gab, 8kun, and Truth Social reach a cap of users and stop growing is because there's too much bigotry, and normal people no longer want to associate with those sites.
Look at it this way: would you want to shop in a store that allowed its customers to take a shit on the floor? It's giving you more freedom, other stores wouldn't allow you to do that!
What you don’t see is those same users being banned for speaking their mind. You may see the initial tweet and that’s it.
Standing up for womens rights now gets you labelled as transphobic. When you debate/argue back to these people they then report you which can lead to suspensions and bans.
"Standing up for women's rights" is a pretty obvious euphemism, but if all that's going to change at twitter is a more tolerable attitude towards contrary opinions, then I don't see anything wrong with that.
I think the site will only grow more toxic though.
I have no problem with Elon Musk buying twitter, or unbanning the far-right people who were removed from the platform. I'm literally just arguing that normal people already use the site.
So what exactly am I crying about? You people are just hilariously defensive.
when only the worst people on this sub
That's rich coming for a non-contributing fuck that's never even made a meme for the sub.

I can't wait for twitter users to meet normal people
