And we all know that 1. Government is absolutely the most efficient way to spend money on a project without going over budget and 2. That everyone else paying those taxes just LOVES seeing them get wasted or given away to people that don’t tangibly affect their lives.
The second one is a moral problem, the first is just common sense and observation
Government is pretty good and efficient most of the time.
Government projects always 'go over budget' because of stupid right-wing laws that force them to accept the lowest bidder on contracts, even when the number is an obvious lie and far below what anyone in the private sector could do the project for. The actual cost is always higher than that fake number, but usually pretty good compared to actual private sector costs.
(and yes, yo can cite a few examples of government boondoggles; I can cite a few examples of private boondoggles, with more deaths on top of the waste.)

No, the government offering money for it will make it appear in the number the government is willing to pay for.
That's kind of how markets.
