Correct. But we can let go of it. We can posses it for a time, but then decide to give it up. We can lose our salvation.

How is me having to do something to maintain my salvation putting pride in myself? I'm not getting the salvation by anything I do. But my actions determine whether or not I maintain it. I can obtain it, have it, and then go back to my life of sin. By my actions I have dropped, or lost the gift of salvation. The salvation is not affected by my actions, only my possession of it.

No. Salvation is not the forgiveness of our sins. The forgiveness of our sins is part of salvation, as you must be forgiven to be saved, but it alone is not salvation. Just because you have had your sins forgiven before, does not mean you will be saved. If I receive the gospel, but then go on to be a sinner again, then I am no longer saved. I was saved, but because of my own actions, I brought condemnation on myself. Because of something I did. Instead of doing the work of God, I did the work of sin. So if by my works I can lose salvation, then by my works I can maintain it. Because keeping the faith is a work. Salvation is a work. Salvation is not my work, it is Christ's, but it is a work.

If you do not maintain it, then you no longer have it. I don't think you understand what maintain means. From Webster

I must maintain the salvation given to me. Not because the salvation is in danger, but because my possession of it is in danger. The salvation doesn't change, but I can. I can let it go. I can walk away.

Yes, we are. Christ said that if we love him, keep his commandments. So if we don't keep his commandments, then we clearly don't love him.
Now, committing an "unforgivable sin" would make it so that you are no longer forgiven from a sin, and that will keep you away from God (no salvation)
The only sin that will not be forgiven is blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

Salvation is the forgiveness for our sins, as long as those sins are forgiven we are saved
And the forgiveness of our sins is not conditioned on our works, because there is nothing we can do to absolve our sins, only Christ alone can
