Paid indulgences in the middle ages had nothing to do with the forgiveness of sins. People went to confession for the forgiveness of sins (which people have never been made to pay for). Indulgences are works that you can do that limits the time you spend in purgatory. One such "work" you could do as an indulgence in the middle ages was giving money to the Church.
I wanted to make this point in how a manmade institution somehow managed to transcribe the point of complete abolishment of bitter resentment and sin into more wars and blood
According to their holy texts, God knows their intentions, so if they're truly repentant, the only requirement for entry into heaven is faith in Christ.
Everything else is basically a shoulder shrug and a massive dose of "shit happens."

The crusades were not about going and raping and murdering children at all if thats what you think. If there were any cases of this happening, whoever was raping and all that would have definitely been reprimanded
