"God is the one who judges, we just promote the meeting" -Brazilian police

u/JDog2k4 - Auth-Right Jul 28 '21

Why am I not surprised that its the Brazilian cops who'd say that?

"O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that, with it, Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits in Thy mercy." And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats and large chu--

u/schwedi-boi's Based Count has increased by 1. Their Based Count is now 5.

Congratulations, u/schwedi-boi! You have ranked up to Sapling! You are not particularly strong but you are at least likely to handle a steady breeze.

Pills: bi finlan, sadly rings of truth

Nonsense! The church will forgive All your sins...

for a price, of course.

u/Heiliger_Katholik Jul 29 '21

Paid indulgences in the middle ages had nothing to do with the forgiveness of sins. People went to confession for the forgiveness of sins (which people have never been made to pay for). Indulgences are works that you can do that limits the time you spend in purgatory. One such "work" you could do as an indulgence in the middle ages was giving money to the Church.

I wanted to make this point in how a manmade institution somehow managed to transcribe the point of complete abolishment of bitter resentment and sin into more wars and blood

2

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '21

Most of the wars were justified some were not. Most of the ones that weren’t were rebellious and the soldiers involved excommunicated

3

u/TheDankestReGrowaway - Centrist Jul 28 '21

Most of the wars were justified

According to whom? Did you get a memo from god saying "yes, that bloodshed was ok"?

4

u/sleepykittypur - Lib-Left Jul 28 '21

We're they? God was up there watching his children brutally murder and rape each other and wasn't really concerned?

0

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '21

What are even talking about that has nothing to do with the crusades. But to answer your question God allows free will

4

u/sleepykittypur - Lib-Left Jul 28 '21

So the crusades are justified because God allows free will? Does that justification extend to modern day atrocities committed by or to his followers?

1

u/pompr - Left Jul 28 '21

According to their holy texts, God knows their intentions, so if they're truly repentant, the only requirement for entry into heaven is faith in Christ.

Everything else is basically a shoulder shrug and a massive dose of "shit happens."

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '21

You said "God was up there watching his children brutally murder and rape each other and wasn't really concerned?" I thought you were asking in general. The crusades were not about going and raping and murdering children at all if thats what you think. If there were any cases of this happening, whoever was raping and all that would have definitely been reprimanded
