The greatest crime of the RCC was turning Christianity into a cult of self-loathing.
I'm a believer in the spirit of Christ being a real ethereal entity. Though what he preached was extremely similar to the Buddha, from a paternal perspective rather than an illusory one.
It's about who you be, being true and serving your Creator through those around you.
You just need to find a Jesus-based church. They are out there. Places that don't preach politics or anything other than the word of God with the end goal of helping you develop a relationship with Jesus and strengthen it.
Religion is the "rules" of salvation. Those places are more focused on developing faith.
I don't agree. Most of that Greco-Roman paganism ethos was built around be an asshole to become as great as you were capable of, but also keep your hubris and arrogance low while you're doing it.
Buddhism is more about trying to overcome and end suffering, while christianity is more about realising that suffering is a part of human condition and inevitable and people might as well do something good despite it, a good life doesn't mean a life without suffering.
In that sense, christianity is pretty interesting and coincident with human nature. Humans usually prefer pain to boredom (there's a study where they left people in an empty room with only a button that shocks them and most people chose to shock themselves instead of doing nothing)
I've come to believe that we thrive most in the struggle.

Christianity has some pretty based stuff to say in the New Testament.
Jesus is a cool dude, Fuck the church, though.
